Who wants to start a petition to stop SDN from accepting advertisements from Caribbean schools. People are coming out 5-6 years older with a huge debt burden and no useful degree. The majority of Caribbean matriculants never get into residency. The forum owners owe this to its members.

Look I dislike the Caribbean, and I agree with the debt burden and that it's hard to find a job. But SDN is able to run due to ads. Us telling them to stop running ads from a certain place isn't very conducive. Also, most Carib grads do get some kind of residency- FM in the middle of nowhere lol

SDN does not "owe" us anything. And while Caribbean schools are somewhat questionable, it's incorrect to categorically condemn them with blanket statements that aren't actually factually accurate. SDN tends to radicalize views, such as "omfg carib" or "MD>DO 4lyfe." Finally, SDN doesn't charge you for membership, because they get enough sustenence from ads and donations. Be grateful

SDN does owe its members as it's the members who are making the forum viable. I'll bet you money that SDN will be financially viable without these Carribbean ads all over the place spreading falsehoods. Also the majority of accepted Caribbean grads do not get placed into any residency just look up the numbers for yourself.

That's fine- when they start charging poor pre-meds who can barely afford to pay for apps, you can pat yourself on the back that we proved that SDN 'owed us'.
And literally, please look up facts. Caribbean is a hard place to get a good residency. However, if you can suck it up for 4 years, deal with 3rd world country living, and do well on your step, you can probably get a primary care position in an undesirable location. But they do match. So please stick with facts.

Or people could just do their research and utilize the entire purpose of this forum by asking question before you make a life changing decision. The ads are not the problem. It's the people who go against 99.99% of advice given here and go anyway. If an ad is enough to make you make a decision then all I can say is that you're going to live a hard life as a victim of fraud and scams.

I want to believe that the people browsing SDN are more clever than to let a cheap click-me ad gimmick decide how they are going to plan out their professional careers. The people who go Carib are NOT doing research on the subject, that's the common theme I've seen

At the same time, when one does start researching this stuff, SDN is one of the first sites that comes up, and the Caribbean ads plastered all over the forum end up giving them some legitimacy.

I would hope that someone that's willing to sink a couple hundred thousand in a medical education and is ALREADY on SDN, would spend the extra couple minutes to do some thorough research. Especially since there is an incredible amount of information regarding the negatives of being an IMG on here, from non sponsored sections.

However that is not always the case, desperation to go to medical school can cause one to make some bad decisions.

In my opinion SDN users attempting to go to the Carib is the least of our worries. All it takes is one search or one question to get the anti-Carib response you need.

That's Amy Schumer who is a famous comedian so I highly doubt that's an actual picture of her lol.

I see, I've never heard of her but I'm glad that someone doesn't use their own image while insulting others.

Why do y'all have such a personal grievance with Carib schools? I highly doubt a naive premed will come on SDN and find the 1 out of 100( if even that) pro-Carib thread without multiple SDN members convincing them not to go Carib.

As @Lucca says, the people who go to Carib med school may not be doing their fair share of research, period.

If we're whining about things that aren't important, I'm also offended that I'm getting banner ads on SDN for Cubs tickets. Getting people hooked on the Cubs will lead to a lifetime of sadness and disappointment when they inevitably choke in the most spectacular way possible this season.

Honestly, and I know this sounds harsh, people need to get over being a special snowflake. If something you see on this website upsets you, ignore it. The whole website doesn't need to cater to your needs specifically. And, I agree with the above poster. If a naive premed comes here and seees hundreds of threads against Caribbean schools, one thread for the Caribbean schools, and still chooses that school, you're in for a tough road, if you believe something that's been disproven.

I'm not really sure it was, but I took the "suck it" remark to be tongue-in-cheek- jokingly acting as if they believed the DrLX poster.

I think she was just being facetious about the likely troll post that's been going on all day. I don't think she was trying to insult anyone.

ummm actualy i heard you can do derm from carib so suck it

Not gonna lie; I lol'ed.

You never know...statistically speaking, the Cubs bad century has to end sometime.

OP has had some issues understanding sarcasm on these forums... almost to the point where it's a little concerning.

Also, I don't know that they do all of the time, but on the occasion that I've mistakenly clicked on the sponsored forum, and see someone posting an actual question there, other members were quick to tell them to ask in a more appropriate forum and avoid that one.

I'm guessing Jake Arrieta will have a shutout going into the 8th in Game 7 of the NLCS, and Dusty Baker will haunt the Cubs worst memories and wisely pull Scherzer after 112 pitches and we will see Arrieta break down and give up a 3-run home run to the number 8 hitter and they'll lose 3-2. Mark my words.

Did I offend you with my consults for capacity? I always felt kind of weird on my medschool rotations, doing inpatient consults in psychiatry and telling the patient I'm with the psychiatry service. A 1/3 of the time I felt like the patient seemed offended that psych had been called on them.

I'd love to see them lose in the WS to the Sox for the sheer schadenfreude that would result.

Unfortunately the Sox have that perpetual problem called "choking in September"

I almost want to see them get to the WS just to lose it all at the end. Although, the Cardinals have done that more than once, and it is heart breaking. Maybe I shouldn't do that. But the f***ing Blackhawks fans are rooting for it with the Blues now, so whatever.

But that's the whole thing with the Cubs, conventional wisdom flies to the wayside when God (yes, God hates the Cubs, whether you're atheist or not) comes up with ways to keep the curse going. Who would've ever thought the Marlins of all teams would tag Mark Prior for 8 runs in the 8th?

Amy Schumer has actually decided to go premed and is gunning for top 20 acceptances. Good luck to us all.

I heard something about how they're one of 10 teams to win 24 of their first 30 games in a season, and most of those went on to win the WS. You could definitely be right.

Ah the German language, it just rolls off of the tongue. Words for almost every feeling imaginable.

I don't like that there are Carib ads, but if you search anything med school related on google, you will be plastered with the ads. Half my ads on facebook are "SGU- The #1 Provider in US residencies" ...what does that even mean?? And people tag their friends in the comments "why don't you apply here? Look at the scholarship and you can work in the US?"

At least here you can see the ads and be told what a bad option it is. Plus the Carib schools are basically funding the bad advertisement of Caribs schools offered by SDN users. Keeping SDN running is probably one of the biggest marketing hits to those schools (NYT and other newspaper keep publishing positive stories about Carib schools). There is a beautiful irony in that.

What we should be petitioning is getting rid of federal funding for Carib schools

I don't know why anyone cares, it isn't even the "good" Carib schools, it's like the dinkiest ones that you can barely find on google.

Oh and the Cubs are a great team but it just isn't happening this year. With so much hype the youngsters will cave in September. I also predict that Arrieta will win another Cy Young but will fall apart in the division series just like how Kershaw falls apart every year in the playoffs.

Or we can just report the threads and have them moved to the SGU forums.

I don't really have any love for the Cubs, but I think their time is definitely coming.

For my friends that are die-hards a little part of me hopes they do (a very very small part).
It's so fun celebrating WS stuff.

Those ads pay the bills for SDN. On a purely utilitarian perspective, the revenue of SDN is vested in the revenue of caribs, which keeps the forum alive for students who are going USMD and USDO. It's for the greater good.

Kershaw's postseason greatness is coming. For whatever reason, historically elite pitchers crumble early in their postseason careers. However, as a kid living in Arizona in 2001, I saw the greatness that was Randy Johnson go into full savage mode on a stacked Yankee team fresh off of three straight titles. That slider had more bite than an actual diamondback. Kershaw will have his day.
