Hey all,

PGY-2 opening at University of Toledo Medical Center starting July 1, 2011. E-mail our program director: Dr. Catherine Marco or see the program website for more details.

In short, I'm starting my PGY-3 year here, and I've really enjoyed my time here. The program is very 'streamlined' for EM-purposes and does its best to avoid extraneous scutmonkey work for other services.

Don't know much about the Toledo program, but medical students do not underestimate the importance of this when you're considering where to go. If your program leadership doesn't have your back and you get scutted out it will compromise your education (not to mention putting you in some potentially dangerous situations on the wards).

Emergency Medicine is best learned in the Emergency Department.

Right-on, Old Mil.

In particular, we don't take B.S. from the surgery department when it comes down to that nonsense. Our P.D. is a lioness; and occasionally, she roars. When she roars, everyone listens.

Just out of curiosity, why did that PGY2 spot open up? Do you know what field that previous intern switched into? This must be a rare thing in EM considering most people are trying to switch into it...

That PGY-2 transferred into another program without difficulty. He/She had some family stuff that they wanted or needed to take care of first. No hard feelings on any sides; just one of those things that life throws at you.

EDIT: The position was filled pretty much as soon as it opened up, in case anyone else is asking about it.
