Hi all-
A quick question--
I notice alot of programs have a position or two open to PGY-2 applicants. Do you apply to these and do a prelim year, or are these for folks who decide late (ie during their intern year of a different specialty) that they would like to switch to psych?

Thanks!

If I read your question correctly, you're asking whether people can concurrently apply to prelim years and PGY-2 spots, kind of like how they do for PM&R and anesthesiology? I've never heard of that happening in psych.

Our program takes new PGY-2's, and they're a mix -- most of them switched over from other specialties (one did 2 years of FP, another completed obgyn) and one of them switched over from a different psych program.

hey atsai--
Yes, you read my question correct. I want to know who exactly those PGY-2 positions are "meant" for.

For some background, I'm a fourth year who has been agonizing over choosing another field over psych (I rotated late for my core rotation, and realized that I really enjoyed it but have had not been able to do any further work due to subI's and away rotations that I'd scheduled) I'm wondering if I should apply to both fields while I do more rotations, stick with the first with the knowledge that I can always 'jump ship' later to psych, or forget specialty choice number one and do psych regardless of my late interest in the field.

Thanks for the info
