Anyone know of programs/hospitals that offer electives for PGY-4 residents in psychiatry? Or where I can find this information?

I am looking to do electives/externships during my last year of residency and am having a lot of difficulty even knowing where to look to see what programs offer these.

I do have some more specific areas of interest and preferred locations, but ultimately I was looking for a website or even someone to say "my program always has visiting fourth years..."

Anyone help with this? Thanks.

This is actually pretty tough to do as a resident compared to a medical student. Unfortunately with a resident comes liability and malpractice coverage which your home program will not cover at another program. Also the place you want to rotate often cannot cover a "visiting" resident under their coverage. I guess if you got your own malpractice and came to a program with that information that may help. Its just not an easy thing to do as a resident

I am noticing. I posted here as a last resort. I am in a military program and I really love it, but there are a few areas of psych I want more experience in...and I can imagine the civilian side of things is completely different.

Some of the local civilian hospitals will support us, but I wanted to see what else was out there. I've come across some research electives that I would be interested in, but that is about it. Before I contacted a few hospitals where I knew people I'd see if I was missing something or if this was a common practice or not. Guess not.

I wouldn't say it's common. If there's a particular sub-specialty or area you want to eval, could see if there's a VA connected to a university that might be willing to set up a rotation. That's probably an intermediate that's achievable, and many VA's are connected to major academic institutions, so if you know who/what/where you want to study, could go from there.
