PGY2 entering as possible PGY1, Address in applications?Program Director please.

Hi.
I previously posted about having to reapply for residencies after resigning secondary to medical illness (Addison's) as I had already had a 6 month long leave the year prior and my hospital admins unwilliness to grant me any further leaves. I'm ready to restart my residency, so seeing little other choice, I'm applying through ERAS. I did explain my leave, I'm ready to return, well managed etc. Here's my question. Are the committees going to automatically assume I'm looking for PGY-2 positions and blow me off, should I state somewhere I would like credit for my time completed if possible, but if not I'm willing to begin as a PGY-1? If so, where?

I think if you are applying through the Match the assumption is that you are looking for a PGY1 position. PGY2 positions are typically handled outside of the Match.

Agreed with AT. In general, if you're applying through the match the assumption is that you plan to complete 12 months of PGY-1 work. However, when I see an application like yours, if I happen to have an off cycle PGY-1 spot (because someone else dropped out) I might offer it to you, and then promote you in June assuming your performance is satisfactory.
