I do know it is very hard to change specialty. ppl changing from IM/FM to path usually cannot land at a great path program.

how hard is it to transfer to another path program after 1 yr of path residency?

It depends on an open slot more than anything else.
Followed by the reason for the transfer. I know of people who relocated because their SO was moving and got good spots at good locations.
But I think there was already an opening at that program, and the people left their programs on good terms...

Pathologyoutlines.com and careermd.com both have had postings about PGY2 spots.. dont know about right now...

ppl tend to use family reason. what if i just want to move to a better program?

Well the cases I am referring to it would have been hard for them to fake their spouse getting the jobs they got. So they didn't 'use' the family reason.

And just to get to a better program? Good luck. If it is really just get to a better program you might have a chance. But it is to get away from your program... The new program director is almost certianly going call your current program director. And Pathology is a SMALL world...

Why do you think you won't get a good path program for your PGY1 year? I think alot of programs would view a background in FM/IM as a bonus -
Did you enter the match?

They are not going to take you if they don't have an opening, and in general good programs don't lose residents, while bad ones do. It does happen though, you never know. Why you would be planning on doing this before the match even happens I have no idea. If you can't match into the program, why would you be able to transfer in?
