Just curious to see if there is anyone out there that may be enrolled in a dual Pharm.D./M.B.A. Degree Program at your respective universities? I am on the fence about enrolling in this program, only because I know you do not need an M.B.A. to become a retail pharmacy manager (but I'm thinking it the M.B.A. degree may give me an edge). Just wanted to get some thoughts on this... thanks so much! 🙂

If I would have had the option I would have done it. You absolutly do not need any advance training to be a retail Pharmacy Manager, certainly not an MBA.

I think it would be useful if you wanted to move into corporate administration or hospital administration. In fact its probably not only helpful but mandatory. I guess it all depends on where you see yourself in 10 years and how far up the ladder you want to climb....

I have considered it as an option, and decided it's not worth it. Mainly because a dual program takes the most valuable components out of the MBA, so it becomes just one more thing to add to the resume. I want the value of the program (knowledge base, networking opportunities, specific concentration area that will help me in my particular line of work), not just three letters to add after my name and hope that gets me noticed. That's why I am putting off MBA until I know what will work best for me. 🙂 But that's only if you are serious about trying to carve your niche in the upper ranks of corporate America, otherwise I know plenty of people, including my classmates and coworkers, who did the dual program and they seem perfectly happy with it. 🙂 Just think what you want to get out of the program, and what you want to be in 10 years - and if the dual program offers it to you, then by all means do it. There probably will never be another opportunity that would be as convenient. 🙂
