I am a pre-pharm freshman at a 4 year university. to make my application more competitive i was thinking of becoming a a pharm.tech. I was just thinking of getting a couple books..studying..take the exam hope i pass..and hopefully get a job somewhere...i hope its that easy at least...ANYWAYS.. does anyone know any good books they would recommend i buy to study for the exam? i have NO experience in pharmacy what so ever..can i pass the Pharm.Tech exam just by studying a book? ive heard people recomend The Pharmacy Technician?

The only book you should need is the one on the Tech Lectures website...It has every thing you need to know and is divided into chapters. It includes tests and an optional CD-Rom to help out even further...

You can find it here..

I bought The Pharmacy Technician but didn't really use it. It did have everything in there though. I lent it out to a coworker who used it to study and she said it really helped.

I don't know wher you are from, but in a lot of states you don't have to be certified to work as a tech. My advice would be to find a job in a pharmacy and work for a while and then take the test. That way you will have a background in pharmacy.

i called some pharmacies around my area ex:cvs/walgreens. and they all said their not hiring any techs unless their certifies...btw im from TEXAS

You are right that they won't hire any TECHS unless they're certified. However, they will hire pharmacy clerks and pharmacy cashiers. That is a great way to get some experience, which is the fastest way to learn for the PTCE.
