Hello!

I took the PTCE a few weeks ago and passed it so I have to send my application for a license (I'm from California). My question is do we have to get the copy of the certificate that was sent in the mail notarized, or will the online certificate work? I asked the PTCB and they said online is fine but I don't know if California has different rules. I already got the online one notarized but I fear that I may have wasted money if we need the mailed certificate notarized.

Likewise, for the national practitioner self-query thing, do we need to get the mailed copy notarized? I didn't realize that I would have to wait for a mailed copy so I did the self-query step really late, which was at the beginning of the week AFTER I got my certificate. That means now I have to wait a few days until the mailed copy comes, but I'm getting impatient and wondering if we could just print out the form online and get that notarized.

I'm a little impatient because I heard the CA Board of Pharmacy takes about three months to process the application. :/

Please let me know! Thanks.

The instructions on the license application were pretty detailed. From what I remember for the certificate you can either send the original certificate without getting it notarized OR send a notarized copy (online is the same certificate). For the self-query I thought you get a printed application notarized, then when they mail you the results you make sure not to open the envelope. It's been a while though.

For me after I turned it in (in person but they said it makes no difference), it took about 2 months.

Thanks. So for the self-query, you're saying I can just print out the results online and get it notarized? What is the point of the mailed result with the envelope then? Do I just keep it?

See under "Practitioner Self-Query Report"

http://www.pharmacy.ca.gov/forms/tch_app_pkt.pdf

There's further instructions on the self-query website. You do the online form and pay, print it out, get that notorized, and send it in to them. When they send you back an envelope you leave it unopened and include it with your application.

For me it took around 3 months for the actual certificate to come in the mail showing I was certified and registered with CA BOP. If needed, you can shave off a week or two by checking the website to see if you are registered. That's proof that you can take to potential pharmacies to show that you are certified and that you are basically waiting for the paper to come in the mail.

Such a long time... sigh. My mistake for doing the self-query so late because I didn't read carefully.
I can show potential pharmacies that I am certified, but they won't actually hire until I get the license, right? I don't know private pharmacies around the area so I think my only bet is to go to retail stores.

Ok... so I got the Data Bank results, but the envelope was not sealed... :/ This is kinda making me mad because I waited all this time for nothing. The thing is, the back wasn't ripped open or unsealed; the fold just had not been sealed in any manner at all.

Should I call the Data Bank and ask what I should do, or should I just seal it myself? There's no sign of anyone ever doing anything with the back of the envelope, so the CA Board of Pharmacy shouldn't know, right?

:/

My envelope was "sealed" as in wasn't open. Like if someone were to lick and close it. It didn't need an official "seal" thing over it.

Ok, good to know that an official seal isn't necessary. I just used water... hope it works! I don't want to wait another week for a new envelope. I'll be submitting it soon!
Time to wait two or three months for this license.

Hope that works for you too! I remember looking through the envelope in the light and it was just like one sentence saying that I was an ok guy.
