so... someone i know (a pharm student) just told me that one of his classmates got accepted to all the Ivy MD schools, and a pharm program. He is currently attending the pharm program and one of those ivys is holding him a spot for after he graduates from pharm school.

😕 ... why would someone accepted to MD school choose to do a pharm program first? has anyone ever heard of such a thing?

(he also said that half the time docs dont even know what they are prescribing and that pharm ppl save docs from getting sued b/c they often prescribe the wrong dosage... leads me to believe hes just trying to put pharm on a pedestal)

i know nothing about pharm.... but it all sounds a little strange. im not trying to talk down pharm... but an ivy holding a spot for someone who just started pharm school?

No way, Jose. Schools aren't going to hold a spot for 4 years.

Agreed. Occam's razor and a fiver says this guy is lying. You'd have a hard time even getting accepted if you made it known you were applying to pharm school, let alone getting a deferment.

Again, that's not a knock on pharm - just that someone who plans on doing both hasn't really thought too hard about either.

No Dr Ginger. You and your classmate heard it wrong. Its PharmD, then DMD, then MD, and an MBA somewhere in between. All the ivy med schools have agreed to hold his spot for 8+ years.

Nah, it's total BS.

My money is on the fact that he was a failed premed who didn't cut it, and pursued pharmacy as a second choice with some residual bitterness about it.

He probably didnt get into med school and is hiding it like a douchy pre-med (which are, pretty much, the majority of premeds).

Yeah he's lying.

He's gonna come out and say "No I deferred my acceptance so I can get started with a career."

Who the **** would go to 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of Pharm school, 4 years of med school, then 3+ years of residency ... just to work as a regular physician?

"Yeah I get out of my overnight at 8, then get to work at CVS by 9. I pharm there until 5 then go home and eat and sleep for a couple hours. Then go back to work at midnight and do it all over again."

Uhh...
