  1. Pharmacy Student
Hey guys,
I recently got an interest to look into Podiatry schools. I am currently pre-pharm applying for next year cycle. I just graduated with a Chemistry degree and Spanish minor and about a 3.56 overall GPA, a 4.00 Spanish GPA, and 3.4 Chem GPA. My pre-pharm req GPA was about a 3.6-3.7. I have a ton of clinical hours working in a pharmacy as a certified technian (about 5 years) and lots of extracurricular activities including hospital work for a couple years and being a translator in nursing homes. My question is, how tough would it be to try a different track? Lets say that I get accepted into pharmacy school but still want to apply to Podiatry school.... Are my chances kind of shot since I have no experience in Podiatry, and no letter of recommendation from any Podiatrists. I know I would have to explain myself "WHY" the switch, I kinda need some advice. Also, which schools would I have the best chance at? I know I still need to take the MCAT, but that will come a little later.

In your case, first I would make sure I had all the pre-pod requirements for admission to pod schools. (Chem/O-Chem, Bio, Physics, Calc, English) After that, I would start shadowing a Pod right away for a letter of rec, also in your case maybe you can get one or two in addition to the pod letter if you ask around. Then, study for the MCAT and take that, then app.

In regards to the acceptance to the Pharmacy school, I don't see why that could matter. I'm pretty sure you don't even have to disclose that to the Pod schools anyway. Also, don't let the lack of experience discourage you. I have six years of dental experience under my belt, decided pod fitted better and I switched with absolutely no knowledge.

For schools, your GPA and sGPA (I'm assuming pre-pharm GPA is sGPA) are great! You could make it in to any school if your MCAT is decent. Good luck man, and hope I helped a bit with all the rambling I did.

POD schools will take anyone. You shouldn't have a problem:laugh:

one person mentioned calc as a requirement, it is not. Although they like to see that you have taken a stats course or upper level math.

No they do not take everyone, but if you want to go to podiatry school then you can. It is not hard to meet the minimal requirements.

As far as staying in school goes, it is much harder than getting in. Roughly 20% of the students drop out along the way so it is important to make sure you really want to do this, and then try and find a school that you can be happy at.

With that said in my biased opinion (because I love podiatry and I am already accepted) there is no way I would have gone the pharm route over podiatry, it is so saturated now and schools are still opening.

Your gpa is above average and you would be in the running for some pretty good scholarships at a few schools depending on your MCAT. The average MCAT is a 22, but you should still aim higher. If you ended up wanting to go DO or MD then you would need a higher MCAT anyways so just study for it and do well.

Are you being sarcastic, or are you actually stating a fact? lol If yes, why do they take everyone?
Probably a little bit of both
There is a "what are my chances" thread check it out and you will see for yourself. It is not that hard to get into

Basically the number of applicants is only about 20% greater than the number of seats. So the schools take most people who apply.
