How easy is it as a pharmacist to move from one state to another?

I have the option of attending the university of cincinnati, which has tuition that is less than half of the tuition of the school i have been accepted into in the chicago area. however, i ultimately want to work in the chicago area. if i were to go to school in ohio, how difficult would it be for me to take the illinois boards and find a job in the chicago market?

do retail pharmacies prefer to hire from local schools?

Retail pharmacies hire who ever is dumb enough to accept the job.

You would be crazy not to go to the cheaper school.

Finding a pharmacist job in Chicago will be tough no matter where you go to school. I would strongly consider going to Cincinnati as it's cheaper and the the pharmacy school has a good reputation. You can get licensed in whichever state you like once you're done.

the pharmacy world will be a lot different when you get out of school. nobody can predict it. however, if you investigate the trend you will see that pharmacy is on a rapid decline (job-wise) especially in large cities.

Go to the cheaper school! And be prepared to have to go to undesirable areas to find full-time employment. 4 years is a ways off but more than likely the retail job market will continue to get crappier.

heh heh motility...i guess if you put ants in your pants at work you'd have an insane amount of motility.

but in general pharmacists have pretty good mobility.

Go to UC. While its name doesn't carry the same weight as as OSU, it still carries weight as it's one of the legacy schools in Ohio, definitely not a diploma mill.

Further more, the cost of living is very cheap over there. The neighborhood around campus is pretty dodgy. Rent for a near campus older 1 bedroom runs around $450-$550. If you can't rough it like a student on tight budget, then hyde park area 10-15 minutes drive away is where a lot of the upward mobile young professionals live, runs $650-$700ish for a nice 1 bedroom there.

If you haven't heard of bedbugs, then you will in Cincinnati. It's an endemic problem, so be sure any apartment (nice or not) contract covers pest control just in case. 😀

Make sure it's not too warm down there (avoid hot tubs/sauna/seat warmer), eat enough veggies and organic stuff, exercise at lease 3-4 times a week, avoid caffeine/alcohol/tobacco use, keep self touching to a minimum 2-3x/week and no excessive cycling to kill those hungry boys... I'm sure you will have plenty of motility 😉

Chicago is a wonderful city with so much to do. Cincinnati is ****ty, especially the campus area. I can say this because I lived there. Someone got shot and died while just minding their own business and it was scary because I was in the area of the shooting.

Having said all that, I think you should pick UC for a cheaper tuition. You're gonna thank yourself 4 years from now for paying less than half of the tuition cost.

Hard to predict what pharmacy will be like 4 years from now. Sometimes all it takes is being at the right place at the right time and know the right people.

That stuff doesn't just happen in Cincinnati.

I know that, but you have to agree with me that downtown Cincinnati is pretty ghetto/scary/dangerous and I also recommended Cincy to the original poster.
