Pharmacist wage...

Can someone post the wage of his/her first job as pharmacist... Some people said the average wage for pharmacists is 50k-60k. However, I spoke to a pharmacist who work for a retail chain in south FL (Publix) and she told me that she started with a salary of 93k in 2007. I think that salary is little too high...Am I right?
 
All based on law of supply and demand. 93k sounds about right. Sometimes you could get signing on bonus of up to 25k as well. Those days are past.

I know a graduate of MWU-CPG started at 106K right after graduation...50-60K seems really low...o well

supply and demand indeed BUT, you must consider now, the supply is much much higher than the demand.

so those days are going to disappear

42 hours/week

2 13s and a 1/2 day per week and every other weekend (close at 6 sat and sun)

Volume is roughly 1300-1500/week.

Im also the PIC, salary is base.
 
According to a survey of pharmacists salary, the lowest I can find is a $52.14 hourly wage and that's as a hospital pharmacist. But this was as of Spring 2010.

That seems high/normal for New England. I got offered $126K for floating NW CT/west Mass, but I was moving away anyway. That definitely hurt to decline!

Wow - nice self-control. I'm going to be honest I don't think I would have been able to resist that kind of money given the current state.
 
50-60K/year? lol...must be a joke...Here in So.Cal, My based salary is 125K ...40 hrs/week , and i still don't feel enough. Living cost at my place is very high, too.

Move to South Dakota! Here, that will buy you a mansion, a trophy wife, and a nice car in your driveway. Also...corn and/or cattle 🙂

wtf? people getting higher salaries than nyc area. what company was that? CVS overnight shift in ny only pays ~128k. is that reasonable?

On paper, it looks like I don't make a lot of money...When you factor in all of my benefits, its easily over 90k

Last year, my official papers said I made $45k. That didn't factor in the $40K I get in tuition reimbursement, the $15K bonus I get, and the fact I don't pay for health insurance. This year, due to my deployment, my papers will say I've made zero money. (When you are deployed, your money doesn't get taxed for income) It's quite a system to wrap your mind around...took me over a year to figure out

i know pharmacists making 80k a yr. so that 52.14 is def not the lowest salary

That was the lowest average salary and if you are telling the truth then these pharmacists are being paid $20,000 below the average hospital pharmacist. Find a new job.

most hospital pharmacists do not make near 50 an hour.

easier said than done in this economy. you remember, there is this surplus type thing going on in pharmacy.... basically you dont want this job we got about 30 other people who are willing to take that job with bills to pay.

i know some industry guys that ARE NOT even making 80k a yr that are pharmacists. they hoping to move up but you know how that is.

FYI these salaries im stating are not in the midwest, they are in the greater NY area and NJ. so cost of living is insane too.

not sure what you are gettign at. you posted me the results of a survey sent out for people to respond with their salaries.

i posted that that information is definitely not correct and ive seen lower since this thread is about wages.

you respond how they should find a new job while ignoring the fact that pharmacy jobs are not out there like they used to be.

these salaries are not going to be the future either going forward. keep that in mind.

Key part in bold. Jobs are still out there. Your posts seem to imply that about 90% of graduating classes are going to go unemployed when in reality it's more like 10% (based on a very recent article someone posted in another thread).
 
I actually joined the network to specifically respond to some of the comments posted above.

I am a hospital pharmacist in Chicago (staff/clinical) and my starting slary was $45 an hour. Working second shift (230 PM to 11 PM here) came with a 10% shift differential whenever I worked those shifts. After a year my wage was bumped 2.5%. These numbers work out to 93,500 starting...which is GOOD by hospital standards. Still, I wouldn't go back to a retail job even if I could (no chance of that in the saturated Chicago market). Why work for less money? I like my job more. Plus, I get to sit down at work. It really is amazing how much being able to take a seat or take a bathroom break can mean. Even working at a slow grocery store pharmacy still meant longer hours with few to no breaks.

I don't get the big deal about working in Alaska. The only complaint I hear is "there's sunlight 24/7" but that's what curtains, blinds, and sleeping with a pillow over your head is for.
 
I made between 45K and 50K when I graduated in 1994 working fulltime in retail! I made $11/hour as a graduate intern. No way is anybody starting at 50 to 60K in pharmacy these days unless they are working part-time. I currently make near $50/hr as a staff pharmacist at a hospital. My wage per hour has increased by close to $15/hr since I started there 8 years ago.
