Is the frat "Kappa Psi" a graduate fraternity? Or can I join it as an undergraduate student?

:luck:

It is a "professional" fraternity. You must be a pharmacy student to join. Not all pharmacy students are graduate students since you can start pharmacy without a degree. They are professional students.

You should look into Phi Delta Chi. Not only are we the premiere pharmacy fraternity in the nation but we do not look down on our pre-pharmacy brothers. All pre-pharm brothers have the same rights as our pharm brothers. No neophytes with PDC.

And once you are accepted to pharmacy school, you can join the much more selective and well recognized Kappa Psi. Phi Delta Chi can be your started frat until you can get into a pharmacy fraternity like Kappa Psi! 😀

Haha, I joke. Join what you want but unless I am mistaken, you cannot switch fraternities. I could join Kappa Psi because my undergrad frat was a social fraternity while kappa psi is professional. Switching from social to social or professional to prrofessional is a big no-no.

Out of curiosity, why does Phi Delta Chi allow prepharmacy students to pledge? Plenty of prepharmacy students don't make it to pharmacy school and it is supposed to be a brotherhood of pharmacy professionals. Not a brotherhood of pharmacy professionals and some undergrads that are thinking about it maybe..

"The premiere pharmacy fraternity in the nation" Good one. Your vigor in defending PDC is...amusing at times.

In 0-6 programs, students in the first and second year can join Kappa Psi. I haven't seen PDC open to pre-pharmacy students, but this likely varies from chapter to chapter.

...How does a fraternity which requires you to be in a pharmacy program have anything to do with PRE-pharmacy??

Some fraternities don't require that you be in pharmacy school to join. Did we get a clear answer on Kappa Psi's practice in this regard? I also don't know how PDC's works, I just know that a pre-pharmacy member went through the same rush and initiation with me in pharmacy school.

Edit: looks like pre-pharmers can join if they're booked into a 0-6 program. Pre-pharm it stays. 🙂

He/she is looking for a prepharmacy fraternity and inquired about Kappa Psi. Therefore it has everything to do with pre-pharmacy.

Students are not professionals. If this is a brotherhood of pharmacy professionals then why are collegiate brothers considered full members? If they believe in the same things that we believe in and want to have the same focus then how can we NOT accept them? I think KE and KY do a disservice by not opening up to pre-pharmacy students.

My chapter was open to pre-pharmacy but the KE and Kappa Psi chapters were open to pharmacy only. They liked to brag about that but most of our pre-pharm get in so I believe right now we outnumber them. Numbers don't lie

No.

No.

I think you are misunderstanding the definition of a professional. Students ARE professionals. You must meet certain experential, knowledge, and moral standards and as a student, you must become licensed.

Specialized training + licensure = professional

Just because a student is still in school does not mean that they are not a professional. Look up the definition of professional and tell me how a licensed pharmacy intern does not fit..

And numbers don't lie? So selectivity means nothing, it is all a numbers game. That makes sense. More = better, better does not equal better.
By your logic, insects are better than humans. There are more of them. Numbers don't lie. I guess community colleges are the best educational institutions since they have so many graduates. Numbers don't lie.

This "Which frat is best?" discussion is nothing but a matter of opinion. And at some COPs, students don't even have choices about which to join. I attended two different schools, and at one, there was only LKS for women and Kappa Psi for men. The other school had coed Kappa Psi only.
