I am beginning to prepare for my interviews for Pharmacy school and I have a question regarding pharmacy experience. I volunteered at a local Pharmacy for 10 months and I was wondering how much in depth the interviewees will want to go. Are they going to ask me or want to know detailed questions regarding my time at the Pharmacy, such as stocking or dispensing or any other specific tasks, or are the questions going to be more in general?

As far as I can tell, the closest you'll hear to that content is, "So, tell us what a pharmacist does."

you might get questions on why you picked pharmacy and why you picked the school you're applying to and interviewing at.

depends. I ended up talking about my technician job a lot because it was the center of why i chose pharmacy as a career. Many of the question I got were "Name the time you exemplified or experienced blank" and most of my experiences centered around my job, and because many of my answers went to my job I also got a lot of follow up questions about what I did in the pharmacy.

That was the way I controlled the conversation. I gave experience with my tech job, school, and my volunteer work. I never talked about my previous job as a McDonald's cashier because I hated that job and if I learned anything from that working experience, it's that the world is a cruel place. Basically what I wanted to say is that, the questions start off very broad, but if you start answering in specifics, you might get questions asking for more detail.

Please use the SDN Interview Feedback which is located at the tab at the top for perspective schools in which you will be interviewing at.

To answer your question, the questions will be more general and some will be hypothetical situations. As far as stocking or dispensing, you are not a pharmacist yet. They may ask you something regarding patient-pharmacist interaction or doctor-pharmacist interaction, but never about the medications themselves.

I don't think you will be asked anything you couldn't easily answer. They might ask you to tell them about a time you saw a pharmacist do something that impressed you or maybe to tell about an experience that made you uncomfortable and how you would have changed it. I'm sure Admissions or Belmont could help you.

I got the slacker group member question. I said that I would attempt to motivate the groupmate the best I could. What form that motivation takes varies from person to person. Guilt works on me, for example. For others, maybe you have to be direct and say that they just aren't cutting it. Who knows? Try different things. If they are expecting a more involved answer, I'd tell them at the end of the day, if the groupmate absolutely refuses to do anything, the rest of the group is going to have to suck it up and get the project done. Yeah, it sucks but you have to get the work done.
