PharmCAS

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My institution doesn't give letter grades. Instead it gives out 4.0's, 3.5, 3.0, etc.

So, would a 3.50 be a B+ or A- for pharmcas?

Thanks guys

It really doesn't matter. Pharmcas lets you submit either a letter grade or a numeric grade.

I'm sure you write the job title, and then describe the job.🙂

Yah, it was weird. I called them and they said it was a bug. It took a few days for them to fix it. What a relief!

A 3.5 is probably equivalent to an AB on Pharmcas. That's how my college gave out grades, A, AB, B, BC, C, etc.

When you fill in your grades on pharmcas they will ask for a letter or number. Pharmcas will then compute it to the 'Pharmcas Grade.' I think there is a scale in the FAQ section on pharmcas.

i have a question. Do I need to wait until all the LORs are received by PharmCAS as well as all transcripts before e-submitting?

No, you can go ahead and e-submit

Send me all of your info. I will make sure you make the deadline.

This is a limited-time free offer to all P1 hopefuls for Florida based schools.

On the work experience part, did you limit it to pharmacy type jobs only or did you include things like McDonalds and Babysitting. 😆

Also, the Parent/Guardian Info, did you feel that out even if they aren't your guardians anymore, and you live on your own.

Thanks.

Yes fill out the entire section, including parents info. In the employment section put your entire employment history " in order of most importance". I personally wouldn't add under the table jobs.

I included a waitress job. I put in the description that it helped me learn good communication/people skills.

Where do I pay my application fee? I want to pay by credit card but I can't find anywhere to pay. Do I pay after I submit? If so, that's why I can't find it now....

pay after submit

I was wondering if I needed to wait for all transcripts and LORs to be received by Pharmcas before I submit. My school says that it mailed off the transcript last week, but pharmcas still doesnt say that it was been received. Also, I told my profs that I needed my LORs by next week, but I'm not sure when they'll be done with them. Do I need to wait to e-submit?

IMO, you should wait until PharmCAS has received all of your school transcripts because PharmCAS will do absolutely nothing with your file until they have received all transcripts. Then you should pay.

But wait, it takes PharmCAS at least a couple of weeks to verify each grade on your transcript after receipt. Only at that point will they forward your application to your designated schools. As you can see, it takes a while.

Every item in your PharmCAS checklist folders that is marked with any asterick MUST be completed before they will forward it to schools as well.

Incorrect.. you can send before transcripts/LOR are received by pharmcas. I've done it in the past with NO problems.

really? i thought you couldn't e-send your app until your transcripts were received? damn, i was totally misinformed

Yep, that is right. You do not have to wait until they receive your transcript and LORs. I just called pharmcas today and spoke to two different people and they told me the same thing.

I never said you can't submit, as you can do it at anytime. Please read what I said. My point is that PharmCAS will do nothing with your application until they receive your transcripts. This is what PharmCAS told me.

Also, LORs do not need to be submitted at that time because it does not have an asterick on the folder.

Please let me know if this information is incorrect.

Thanks. I just wanted to know if it was ok for me to submit. Pharmcas has gotten one of my transcripts, but its still missing 1. And I think my LORs should be in by next week. I just want to submit so I dont have to worry about it anymore. I believe it takes pharmcas about 5 weeks to get everything out after you submit anyways.

Hi Guys,

Im almost ready to e-submit but PHARMCAS has not received my references because my professors are taking their time with my recs.

If I e-submit before PHARMCAS receives the recs, will the school eventually get them? Has anyone had some experience with this? I dont want to pay PHARMCAS again if it comes down to that!

=)

Thanks guys, you are the best!

GLUCK ALL!

I am having a bit of a dilemna, I have two interviews from Touro and UOP and they are on fridays. My Biochem class will meet on MWRF. Missing two days of biochem will definitely hurt my grade. I am taking biochem for Western University, so if I decided not to take it, will it look bad? And also that means that I would only be taking 4 units this semester. I know UOP doesn't like that. What to do? Advice anyone?

definitely it will look bad especially if that ends up being a W on your record.....try to work an arrangement with your professor, im sure he or she will understand your situation and be lenient about it.......best of luck to ya......

Oh, I haven't taken the class yet. I'm just trying to not get to that "W" point.

hmm.. good question. I think if it was the only thing they were concerned about, they would ask you during the interview as to your reason why you didn't take it. Then again, i'm sure your professor can make some arrangements for you, especially if you are a studious and good student! but if you fall asleep every class and everything, then good luck! 😛

hehhee.....i agree, if youre the type who fall asleep in class, come in late and leave early everyday, then no need to ask the Professor because you already know the answer....😀

Hey all,

I am a junior in college right now and will be applying to pharmacy schools this time next year. I want to start on PharmCAS early so that I won't have to stress so much later, but since I'm not applying to pharmacy schools this year, will the system wipe out any of my information after this year's round of applications is over?

Thanks for any responses!

The slate is wiped clean after this years round of applications. Everything started from scratch next cycle.

Wait until July, and then apply.

It doesn't really take that long to fill out the form. My suggestion if you're trying to get it done ASAP would be to have transcript request forms ready from all of your school, such that you can put them in the mail as soon as the 2008 application comes out (and you get the official Pharmcas transcript request form). This will leave you plenty of time to work on your Pharmcas application while you wait for transcripts to arrive.

pharmCas will wipe out your application, but there is still plenty of things to do meanwhile, so that when pharmcas reopens in june 2007 for your round of applications, you will have all that time to fill that one out.

work on ur pharm. experience if you don't have any, relations with professors/pharmacist for great LORs and work on your essay! I wish i had a year advance to prepare for all that stuff!

I e-submit my application before my LoR. As soon as PharmCAS receive all the documents then it will send it. As PharmCAS receives PCAT and my transcripts, and TOEFL score, it keeps on updating my designatd schools.

It's okay to change your mind after submitting the PharmCAS. Have you submitted the Western supplemental yet? If so, you have to write them in writing of the change. This happened to me last year regarding an anatomy class.

You should be ok. There can be many reasons including the class being full and you just couldn't get in. Plus, if it's not a pre-req for the school you are applying school, I doubt they would care too much. However, getting a W is totally different so yeah, you should be ok.

Plus, go interview for Touro and UOP and if you don't get in and will need to depend on Western, you can always take biochem during Spring 2007. Good luck!

Bump --

Could someone answer this question...
I called PharmCAS and they told me that I should report my AP/IB scores into PharmCAS even though I don't need them for any of my pre-reqs, and then call the individual schools to see if they want it. BUT I don't understand how to put it into PharmCAS??

Thanks!

My IB scores appear on my college transcript. So, following Pharmcas' directions, I entered them exactly as they appeared on my transcript. Here's how I entered one:
Course: Hist Europe, IBEH
Subject: General/Non-science
Course Level: Lower-division (Fr/So)
Grade: 6.00
PCAS Grade: None
Credits: 4.00
Classification: International Baccalaureate
Test Score: 6

When Pharmcas verified my courses and calculated my GPA, this course was not included in my "GPA Courses" (probably because it wasn't graded per se). I'm not sure how you would enter them if they didn't transfer to your undergraduate college. Hope this helps!

Thanks so much!
My SL IB spanish obviously didn't get accepted but it also appears on my transcript. I guess I should just also add that in?

Pharm47 - Did you have to send your IB scores to any of your schools? How would you go about that if you did?

Thanks!

I remember seeing an oprion under 'enter new coursework for this session' under Coursework and all the way at the bottom where it says 'Special Classification' I'd select AP......but you can always confirm it with somone at PHARMCAS.......Actually I found the below in their Instructions section:

AP, IB and CLEP Credit

If you earned college credit for AP, IB, or CLEP test scores, enter the information onto the application. Enter the grade and credit hours earned as shown on your college/university transcript. AP, IB, and CLEP courses are excluded from PharmCAS GPAs. Send your official AP, IB, and CLEP test scores directly to your designated pharmacy schools, if required by the institution.

Hope it helps....GO MIGHTY REDS!!!!!!

I haven't had to send scores yet. I don't think any required them, unless I was planning to use them for pre-requisities. Since I am not, I haven't had to worry about it.

Also, none of my SL tests counted for credit at my college, so I didn't include any of these on my Pharmcas app. In fact, I don't even remember what other tests I took, or what scores I got!! All I know is I got the damn IB diploma, and my college only gave me 4 credits.👎

UMCP gave me 18 credits for my IB credits. I was more royally pissed that none of those credits counted in helping me finish some core/electives classes for pre-reqs...

Does anyone have a clue as to what I should do about my duplicate credits? Should I report both?

I took the AP bio and the IB bio test (I have no idea why I did that btw)...

Sorry I"m confused, I didn't list any of my AP classes in my pharmCAS coursework area, but I plan on using them to fulfill one requirement for pharm schools.. is it sufficient to just send in the AP scores to each school (which is what I've been doing..)

I know others have asked this before and in other threads, but I thought I'd devote a thread to this. Just wanted to know how long it took for your pharmcas application to get mailed to each school, from the time you pressed the e-submit button and paid. Especially if you've submitted your app in September, since I'm sure it's a lot more busy now and is taking longer than the early birds who submitted in the summer. I'm still waiting for my GPA to get calculated 😳

Also, if your school receives your supplemental application, they could pull up your pharmcas application even before they receive the hard copy in the mail, right? I want them to look at my app right away instead of waiting around for pharmcas to finish their work!

Submitted on August 31st

Mailed out to schools on September 18th

As far as I know...

Midwestern Glendale - Recieved PharmCAS app on September 25th
Western - Received PharmCAS app on September 26th
UOP - Recieved PharmCAS app on September 27th (but hasn't been updated yet)
Touro - Still not recieved
USCF - ?
UCSD - ?

Submitted Aug. 16th, mailed Sept. 11th.

The question was asked earlier but no one answered it...is it true that if you send the school your supplemental application then they can look up your pharmcas info without having recieved the paper application and without pharmcas calculating your gpa? And is pharmcas getting really busy right now? I didn't think that they would be since I know a lot of people who don't plan on sending out their apps until late october or something. Just wondering because I have already e-submitted and I was hoping that they didn't have a high volume of apps right now.
