Small tidbit: most UCSD classes are 4 units each. 😀

Oh yeah, I went to UCSD and I would know. But just feeling like using number 3 for an example. But you're right most of the classes there are 4 units. Good old San Diego.... Memories.... 😀

Hmmm... I went to a quarter system school and I just entered my units (didn't do that conversion stuff). I guess PharmCas fixed everything for me cus everything came out fine in the end. harhar. Oh, for the AP stuff..like for calc, I took AP calc BC when I was in hs. So when I was in college, I got to pass out of it (yeah, I thought I was hot ****) But if you plan on applying to Western, they don't take AP scores.

hey, thanks for the reply. i didn't realize this was being discussed elsewhere.

my school gave me individual credit for a few of the tests, and lumped the rest of them together, so i guess i'll have to figure out individual credit like you did. did you put NG for grade?

You're welcome! and no, i put CR for "credit" and for special classification, i picked "Advanced Placement". Here is the site I used to help me: http://www.collegeboard.com/ap/creditpolicy/
Hopefully, your school will be on there. 🙂

Im still lost about how to include the AB subscore...

I decided to not submit my AP scores and just take it at a community college (and get an A and up my gpa  ). I dont think you need to notate it on your PharmCas, but you will need to on your supplemental applications. As far as the AB subscore goes, you can probably just write it in your supp. app because when the school receives your score report, they should see both scores anyway. That's what I would have done. You might want to call up whatever schools you are applying to and double check.

Wow!! What year did you graduate from UCSD? Funny how you were saying 3 units, because for a second there, I thought you didn't go to that school. lol.

I wanna get so far away from S.D.!! 😀

I am old school. I graduated 2002 from Warren College. Such a long time ago.... Getting away from SD? hahhaha... I am applying there for the pharmacy school. I guess I can't enough of that school.

And the reason I chose 3 units was because it's easy to do the calculation since it's the only one that has a round number.

Go Tritans! Hopefully I'll be rooting for the Trojans!!! 😀 (USC Pharm School)

It's 'Tritons' not 'Tritans'! Hahah. Okay, don't kill me now! Are you applying to UCSD's Pharm. School? Hmm...I heard some complaints about their innovative program of teaming pharm. students with med students. So I guess, most likely, you're learning basically the same stuff as the med students. This might or might not be appealing to you. UCSD's Pharm D. curriculum is also still fairly new and they have yet to graduate their first charter class. So it'd be quite interesting to see what job fields in pharmacy most graduates end up doing (i.e. more research?). You can probably see the stats (or ask for them) from schools that have been around for a long time.

And USC, on the other hand, has a stronger, more solid clinical pharmacy program grounded in many decades, 100 years to be exact--they have been doing it for years!! I'm glad that you're considering the Trojans. Anyhow, this post is getting to be too long! Imma stop now. Heheh.

Sorry about the error that i've made. Hahhaha... I told you I am old school. Ok. Tritons! Man, my coach (Ron Larson) will kill me if he found out that I could not spell 'Tritons'. Anywho... UCSD is a good school. But you're right. The students are taking classes with the Med school students. In a way, I think that's kinda cool. Also I think they concentrate more on research. Whereas USC, I would do anything to get into that school. It's not so great of a location but it's USC! Anyway good luck and Go TRITONS for now hahaha....

I just checked my pharmcas application and noticed that my gpas have been calculated after I submitted it over a week and a half. I *think* everything is completed.... How long does it take for them to mail them out? I already submitted over half of my supplementals to the schools and UOP sent me a letter saying they received my supplement but no pharmcas.

I think I am going crazy. Every day, I check my pharmcas application to see when it is sent out. Why does it take at most 2 weeks to mail the application to the schools via UPS??!!?!??! 😡

Okay. I am just ranting about pharmcas. It's my first time applying and recognize that I have a slight chance of getting in. 🙁

Hey hey, freaking out isnt gonna help. As long as Pharmcas received ur app by the NOV 1st deadline, you are fine. I think schools know that pharmCAS processing takes a long time. But we have done our share as students.

Okay, it is 5:24am right now. I am unable to sleep due to worry. I'm having problems getting my summer 2005 transcript sent to PharmCAS. They have everything else, but my pre-pharm college seems be having clerical issues getting my most recent grades into them. It is now exactly 41 days until the deadline for my #1 choice, UIC. PharmCAS wants to know if they should wait for this updated transcript, or should they delete my summer course and I can get them the grade during the academic fall update window.

What would you do? I'm going to the registrar's office in 2 hours to try and figure out why they are unable to do their job, but I am REALLY feeling the time crunch now.

Thanks for your help.
Chris

After you request a transcript from your summer college, you should confirm by phone with PharmCAS in 5-7 days. Your school won't send it by certified mail and it takes much longer to see it posted online. PharmCAS should receive all of your doccuments (your case is transcript!) before the deadline of your choice school. It doesn't matter when it sends. You also make sure that you complete the supplemental application at that school that you could provide ahead.

Your pharmacy school has VERY EARLY deadline (Dec 1), so they NORMALLY take a look of all applications before granting any interview. Don't be worry much. Through your many posts, I see you have a good personality and your academics sounds good too. I believe you are a strong candidate! :luck:

I had the same problem with my school's registrar's office. If you really want to have those grades in your PHARMCAS app, you should call the registrar's office everyday until they send out your transcript. There are probably one or two people in charge of sending out transcripts. Get their names and speak to them personally. Or if your school is like mine, they might have a 3rd party that handles transcripts. You should ask for their number and call them everyday until you see some progress. If this doesn't work, then I'd just suggest sending those grades in on your fall course update.
I hope everything works out for you!

Better yet, make an appointment with the Registrar or Assistant/Vice Registrar him/herself. Get there right when the office opens and ask to speak with them privately. Don't mess with the administrative aides or student workers in the office since they've already shown they are either sloooowww or incompetent... Or maybe just busy with a heavy workload.

Whatever the reason, speak to the Registrar or Assistant Registrar in person, in private (their office) and request that they send it that very day, and certified mail! They should be able to do this for you, since you already attempted to have it sent the other way and are running up against a deadline. If they won't do this, go see the Dean of Students (or whatever they call it at your particular school)... this person works as a student advocate and can usually get your problem solved ASAP!

One of my recommander allowed me to see his letter and he submitted his letter through the online yesterday. I only can see the rating section (rating 1 to 5 in leadership, ethics, communication...) and his information BUT I CAN'T see his actual LETTER.
And He said he wrote a letter and submitted. He found out he didn't copy it for another letter for other schools but the system did not allow him to go back or check it agian. Is this how the system works?
If I check on the "don't waive the right" section then shouldn't I be able to see the letter? Or do you think he made a mistake? I don't worry about what he wrote on the letter but just worry if the letter is submitted correctly... Please let me know if this is right. if it is not correctly submitted I have to ask him again right away.

Thanks

It turns out that it wasn't the registrar's office. PharmCAS neglected to delete a message telling me that they didn't have my summer grade. He said that the transcript showed up on his desk just AFTER he posted a message saying he didn't have it. What a mess. It still ended up causing a sleepless night and a plethora of new grey hairs!!!

I'm golden. My app is complete... finally.
I'm out there witha 3.92 in pharmCAS's eyes.

Now starts the waiting game.

I don't know how the electronic LOR works, but if i were you i would call pharmCAS first thing monday morning

Will PharmCAS show it online (i.e. send you a message) when you log in?

Also, does the accepting school notify PharmCAS? Thanks!

Hey guys,

Something I can't seem to locate an answer on. Is your math classes such as Business Calculus, Pre-Calculus, etc... included in your pre-science GPA that the school see's from pharmcas, etc.

Reason I ask is I had a couple of D's in math classes about 5 years ago and that really makes A's in chemistry, biology, etc irrelevent and brings the pre-science gpa way down (if included). Thanks

Thanks, I wasn't sure that when poeple talk about their cumulative gpa, pre-req gpa, and science gpa if the math was included in the science gpa. So you would agree that your gpa based solely on sciences is the most important GPA? Thanks

I think that depends on the school. For example, one school might look at the overall GPA, while another may place more emphasis on the science GPA. So, each school is different. Anyone want to add to this?

what is Pharmcas?

i'm applying in texas and was just wondering if we didn't have that or i'm completely not in the loop.

It's the system used to apply to most pharmacy schools, but not all of them. Just go to the pharmcas website and check on the schools your interested in to see if they use pharmcas.

I know have 2 reference letters from pharmacists who I worked with over the summer and 1 from a science prof. I'm happy the one from the science prof finally made it to pharmcas.

One question though...some schools I noticed want 2 letters from science profs. PharmCAS allows a maximum of 3 letters and you can't delete one and add another or anything like that. So, what the heck do you do if you apply to a school that wants 2 letters from science profs and you can't have any more sent to PharmCAS?

It seems to me that PharmCAS would be better if they let us store up to 10 reference letters, then choose which ones we want sent to each school. I imagine improvements will be made to the system though over time.

Hey, why didnt you just get two science professors to do the recommendations and one pharmacist. Then you would have been fine across the board. That way you wounldnt be in the position you are in. Call the school and see if you can have it sent directly to them, although some schools want them sent to pharmcas. However, it cant hurt to ask.

On the pharmcas application, it says that I have to enter my my entire coursework from each school that I've attended. Does this mean ONLY the pre-req's or does it really want EVERY CLASS THAT YOU'VE TAKEN?

That's right. They want every class you've taken per school.

I guess I better start getting to work. Thanks.

If the school that I would like to aply to, does not require PharmcAS then I don't need to fill one out. Correct?
THANKS

no. you would not need to use pharmcas then

what are they looking for when they say immediate professional goals and long term professional goals?

You have to just aribtrarily define "immediate" and "long-term". It's pretty safe to think of where you want to be in 20 years, and use that as your long term goal. Immedite would be more like, what do you want to achieve in the next 5 years. Or, I guess you can go with an even shorter term. I was asked that question and chose to make the process of getting into and finishing pharmcy school my main short term goal. Someone else could have said their ST goal is to explore practice areas and decide which suits them best. There are alot of directions to run with it.

I just finished my PharmCas application last Friday, and I was wondering how long Pharmcas takes to process applications and send them to the colleges?

Has anyone not finished their PharmCas application?

It took PharmCAS exactly 2 weeks and 6 days to complete and mail out my application.

It took PharmCAS just over a month to send print outs to my schools.

So I need to submit my Pharmcas application well before my January 1st deadline in order for them to send everything out to all the schools on time?

If the PharmCAS deadline is January 1st then you just need to submit your application by 11:59pm on December 31st. However, if you are all done with it, by all means... submit it earlier!

Whew, that's a relief. I just have to request my LOR's once I finish my personal statement by the end of this week.... wait for those to quickly come in online (hopefully) and all is done. 😳

You can submit your application even before the LOR arrive at PharmCas. They will still process your application!

Good luck with your lor!!! I have been waiting on mine to do one for 2 months. I am about to DELETE her and add someone else!!! 😡

Are you serious? I had the same problem with one of my references. I contacted the teacher, and she said she never received an email. I ask PharmCas to send my teacher another request. I have all of my references now! Have you contacted your teacher or PharmCas to see if maybe there was an email problem?
