hey all,

you guys have any tricks to visualize pharynx/tonsils? especially the kiddos? It seems like the ones that can understand your commands, the only way to really get a good look is gag them. For the really young ones, it seems like you basically have to pry their mouths open. Any of you all have this problem?

thanks.

One thing I have found helpful for looking in the throat and getting a good strep swab is to have the kid pant like a dog. One it works and two it makes the visit a little light-hearted which might put the kid at ease. Of course this does not work in kids that are three and younger but then go with the above suggestion.

Examine their ears first, then when they are screaming they often open their mouths and you can get a look inside.

Yeah...that's usually my trick, too. Sad, but true.
