I'm currently finishing my Ph.D in immunology and intending to begin dental school soon. However, I was just looking at the August 3rd edition of Science Magazine and saw in the back an advert from New England College of Optometry. It states that a course is available to PhD holders to complete an OD in just 27 months.

I'm not interested in optometry myself, but I'm sure some Ph.Ds out there who are craving clinical work would love an opportunity like this. For the equlivalent time you would spend on your first post-doc (of 2 or 3 similar post docs) you could earn your OD and see patients, run a practice, continue research in conjunction with practice. This is a great opportunity for a PhD to swiftly bring them into a great career.

They have a website that links to the course:
www.neco.edu

Thanks for the Accelerated Doctor of Optometry program (AODP) for Ph Ds. If you'd like more information, contact Audrey Burgess in the admission office at NECO at [email protected]. The deadline for submitting and application for March 2008 is in October 2007.
