Phi Beta Kappa

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's a national honor society with chapters on most 4 year campuses. You should check into the individual chapter at your school. Some chapters are great and others don't do much. I think they only give one invite, and you have to accept during that semester, at least at my school, so choose quickly.

yes, join. this is one of the gold stars that you want on your CV (srs)

PBK is the most prestigious of all honor societies. It really isn't much more than a rubber stamp on your academic achievements but its still probably worth joining IMO.

Yup. It's definitely worth it. When I got accepted I had several professors congratulate me on it when I passed them in the hallways. I'm guessing it must be pretty important if most of the faculty know about it.

Wow lol, I had no idea. I get a lot of mail from Golden key and NCSC (or w/e the acronym is) which I just brush aside, so wasn't sure if this was legit or not. Sounds like it is.

Okay, call me a ignorant, but apparently I got invited to join Phi Beta Kappa, and I have no idea what it is. Is it worth joining?

I'll echo the others. Yes, it is worth joining. If you get invited as a senior it normally means you are in the top 10% of your class, if as a junior, it means top 1% or 2% at most schools that i know anyways. Either way, congratulations!!

Is an invitation to PBK only based on GPA? Or do they also consider extracurriculars? I don't believe my GPA is in the top 10% of my graduating class but I got invited...

All honors societies are legitamate, and so if PBK, but the benefits are questionable.

You might get a medallion and a key chain, maybe some scholarships opportunites, but otherwise not much.

At our chapter, it is top 5% of your senior class and 1% of your junior class.
