Hey All! I am signed up to take a phlebotomy course as an elective next semester and was wondering if you become certified after taking these kinds of courses.

Typically you must take an exam through a nationally recognized testing agency in order to become certified. I would recommend ASCP - very easy exam, no clinical portion (although they do require that you have a given amount of hours experience --something along the lines of 100hrs).

Take a look here for requirements. Make sure your program is national accredited (that is what NAACLS approved is referring to).

Keep in mind that not all areas require certification. I worked as a phlebot for a couple of summers with nothing more than on the job training in the hospital.
