I've noticed that there are a lot of secondaries asking for a 2x2 photograph, so I just took a few pictures on a webcam in my room while wearing a collared shirt. Will that do? Or is that too unprofessional? I can msg the pictures if it's a gray area.

Also, can I just print it on regular paper and tape it on?

It never hurts to present yourself in as positive a light as possible, right? Dressed up professional shot printed in a shop........

Then again, since I applied to 30+ schools and was overwhelmed by supplementals, my priority was doing whatever was fastest. I used my cell cam while wearing a tee. Then I printed them 4x4 on regular paper and hand cut them. Kind of regretted it after I sent them in, but I had no problems and got interviews from several of those schools. But who knows what I missed out on? 😉

Spend the $5 or $10 to get a picture taken with a jacket and tie, or at least a jacket. I would think you would want to present yourself in the most professional manner possible

This is what I did, I had a friend take a picture of me using a pretty good camera in a suit and tie. I took to Walgreens to get it developed in 2x2 (passport size) and I had them make 10 copies for secondaries and future use.

Took IT to Walgreens

Okay great, I'll take it to Walgreens and get the photos developed there. I'm going to keep the webcam pic with the patterned collared shirt because when I used a DSLR just now, there are deep shadows under my eyes and for some reason, it looks of a lower quality. Plus, I don't like the way I look when I have a white shirt on...it looks boring and like a square.

Did you guys take a face shot or full body shot?

The instructions say a face shot, but I cropped it so that it showed a little of my shoulders. You want the collar in because it helps frame your face. 😉

Two of schools (Pitt and NYU) weren't very specific on how the photo should be taken, so thank you for the advice!

I could not find a photo shop that did 2x2, would 2x3 be fine?

I suppose I'll just cut the photo down so that it fits 2x2.

or go try walmart.
Consider this, this is one of the first impressions that a school will get of you. If you send in a photo that doesn't fit the requirment or you aren't dressed the best way, your putting yourself already in a disadvantage.

Some of you guys need to read the directions. Schools ask for a photograph, as in singular hence one photograph. In addition, the instructions state they want passport or head shot styled photographs..

Don't go crazy and just follow the instructions.

Can't just wear a polo?

Hey man, I found a good site from looking through prior SDN posts that either sends it to Walgreens/CVS or to your doorstep. They print 2x2 as well. I don't know of their quality, but they're $1.50/photo if you're able to get a good photo of yourself.

Good luck and if you can't get a pic of yourself, I'd recommend Walmart like everybody else!

The sad reality is that people are people and will unconsciously judge you, even if they have the best intentions. Just look at all of the prior comments on this thread stating how good impressions matter. Additionally, many applicants apply to more than one school so they require more than one photograph.
