I've read the other threads on this subject, but I haven't really found an answer.

I've found another job as a scribe at private clinic (with regular hours, much better pay and actual benefits worth mentioning) and was wondering if this violated anything in the non-compete I signed. The clinic doesn't use a scribing company so I don't see the problem? I've only been with PhysAssist since August. I can't find the document that I e-signed so I can't reference it (not good I know).

Yeah...I know. We are in the implementation phase at my site so I get at least one email a day about what someone is doing wrong. It is annoying. I just found a new job. I've been looking since I got accepted to medical school about 2 months ago.

I just found the document after hours of looking. Turns out it will violate it, but I haven't heard of them enforcing a non-compete. It may be just there to dissuade people from taking new jobs.

Well that's silly. Yeah, I recommend you just commit yourself to the better paying job, since they both provide the same experience.
I mean, unless PhysAssist punishes you for violating their contract that tells you to stay with them for a certain amount of time. Which I doubt haha.

And congrats on getting accepted btw!

Just go with the new job. I doubt they would either A) Find out about your new job, if you quit, which should dissolve any contracts you have with them anyways, or B) Bother to penalize you n the very unlikely case they bother to find out.

Overall, go with the new job, quit the old one making sure you turn in your notice, and don't look back!

Yeah just wondering if anyone had heard of them actually punishing anyone. It doesnt make sense anyways. I make minimum wage and I know they have lawyers on retainer, but it would probably not even be worth it on their end.

Agreed, it is in place to prevent scribe companies from poaching employees and stealing practice ideas.

If anything went to court then would likely side with the pre-med wanting a different job for better pay.

Also, scribe companies need to pay better. The minimum wage thing and aggressive contracts indicates an insidious thought process behind their practices. But that is a whole other the field of discussion.

Need advice on some PhysAssist vs ScribeAmerica as well. I recently got hired at PhysAssist and have completed the training and gone through the process of getting cleared by the hospital. I haven't even started working yet though because apparently the on-boarding process takes anywhere from 5-30 days, so I'm still waiting. However, I was offered an interview at SA and assuming all goes well, they'll offer me a job that: 1) pays more, 2) is about 30-40 minutes closer to my hometown, 3) cheaper to drive to because I won't have to pay toll, 4) is in an underprivileged area that I really want to work in and in the area where I want to go to school, 5) is an outpatient clinic that's only open during the day time so I won't have to work night shifts. Everything about the SA job is better, but I signed the contract with PA that has a non-compete agreement. Do you think I'll be penalized for quitting the job at PA and pursuing the job at SA? And any advice on how to go about this? The only downside to the SA job is the time commitment, but I've heard it's not a big deal if I end early to attend medical school.

To be completely honest, I don't think it would matter. I don't see a problem with just quitting and moving onto scribing at the private clinic. If you're already accepted into med school (congrats btw!), then all you really need to do is make money I suppose. They probably won't hunt you down.. Their turnover rate is pretty high bc all their employees are usually pre-meds and I doubt that they'll keep tabs on you.

The time commitment isn't a huge deal. I was hired to scribe for a different company before receiving an interview invite for SA. I asked about the time commitment and they said it's not a big deal. They just want some kind of verbal agreement. If they penalize you, I would be surprised. I'm not even sure what this would be? They have a number of applicants, so to single you out for quitting would be ridiculous. Anyways, go with whatever will put you in a better spot to succeed and get great experience!

Question, how is ScribeAmerica with taking time off? I assume theres no paid vacation days, but I am attending a seminar out of the country in early January for 11 days. Think they'll be okay with it?

I'm almost certain they don't have paid vacation days. The company I work for requires you to work at least 12 shifts a month, so I'm assuming SA has something along those lines. If this is the case, you should be OK if you can meet the minimum for the rest of that month.

Corporate is just as incompetent as their site managers. I've been working for 3 years and I've gone through months taking only 2 shifts while still full-time, went away for a a few months to do research and they still had me on board, etc. Corporate prob hates me but I've been a lead trainer for 4 different CTS sites so they I'm guessing they see some value in me since they haven't fired me yet. Also, it depends a lot of your chief scribe too. My chief was a new trainee w/ me when I started out and we are mad cool so he doesn't make a big fuss for the little things that would get corp pissed off about.

They have PTO for full time employees only, but it's not a lot.

Go with the higher paid job. never heard anything about them going after someone but then again, not many people at my site leave for another job because our chief scribe/doctors/nurses are all super cool. its a really chill work environment that is pretty close to all of us.
