Is this a trick question?

So part of the job is to determine medical necessity based on CMS guidelines? WTF is the point of even having these 3rd party insurances around anymore. Lately they have been covering less than medicare, require prior auth for EVERYTHING and pay the same (or less).

I'm usually conservative but f**k it, I've had enough. I'm all for single payer at this point to just consolidate my enemies.

I would say do it and document your entire experience. At the end you can talk to a newspaper outlet to expose the industry.

I doubt the approved requests will be sent for review. You would be expected to rubber stamp your denial and if not then explain why you deviated from the "client's specific health plan medical policy"

If it pays as much as interventional pain/opioid prescribing but with zero risk then it might be appealing.

Might be a good job for a doc with a physical disability. Not perfect but what job is?

Do you want to be "that" guy?
Best thing to Be is a trust funder who never had to work a day in his life next best thing is to marry someone wealthy third best thing is to get a job .

employed a 1099 doc a couple years ago. 50+ year old nice guy who had bounced around many jobs. Grandfathered into pain thru pmr. This Anthem thing is now his gig. He lives in Aspen and sits on phone denying care all day. Nice guy. Couldn't hit the side of a bus with a needle. Had to retrain him to do almost every procedure except lftesi

Big read flag. I see a lot of this. If you're in your 50's and can't keep a job for more than 2-3 years--working at this hospital and then that one, a little insurance work, etc. There is a high likelihood that there is a personality d/o in play...

I completely disagree. I've been a narcissist with OCD at the last job for 10 years. And I've been a narcissist more than two times longer than I can remember.

Is it possible to do this job and just be "the messenger"? I wonder if you'd get fired if you told everyone, "I completely agree this SHOULD be covered but unfortunately it's not." In other words, being honest.

Then everyone can take turns kicking you in the nuts at the next SIS, ASRA, ASIPP, AAPM meeting...

Why would you ever go to those meetings tho? After all, more than likely you could work out of Aspen, or Phoenix, or siesta key...

I recommend being a double agent and just approving absolutely everything. Maybe go a step further and not only approve, but recommend additional expensive treatments.
