Physician salaries?

Anybody who have statistic over the salaries of the physicians in Europe? Where in Europe do the physicians have the best salaries? As I know that many swedish doctors are leaving the country for jobs in Europe and US, I am wondering how much better the salaries are compared to Sweden.

Physician salaries vary greatly in Europe. Generally the most well paid doctors are in Britain, and Switzerland I would say. Stay away from Germany. Recently thousands of doctors are leaving the country due to poor pay and long hours. Netherlands would also have good pay, as would France (but you can't practice there unless you're french or they are in great demand of your specialty). Again, it is very hard to quote numbers. Check out page 92 (or 6 in the PDF) as it lists multiple professions and their compensation in swiss francs. In the UK I would expect somewhere around 80,000 - 200,000 pounds depending on experience and specialty. France would be lower than that probably hovering around $100,000. Netherlands is around $70,000. Again these numbers aren't the most accurate, however they give a general idea. Generally eastern european countries make a lot less. Norway is probably worth considering as well.

It appears that Sweden have the worst paid physicians among the 'western european countries'. The salaries in Switzerland appear to be at least three times the swedish ones. And then, when taking the high taxes into consideration, which is 50% for specialists, you understand why they all flee the country.

You're welcome. Unfortunately most of Europe seems overburdened by taxation, but then again, that's what keeps those health costs somewhat low compared to the US. Anyway, I'm glad to have helped and good luck with your future studies.

Hi! there. I always dreamed of going to Europe and have my residency training there. There are a lot of countries which we can choose from but the problem is if they are going to let us in. Anyways, I had stumbled over a book when i was searching for a medical career guide (all about specializations). As far as I can remember, there's a pdf file where you can view some pages of this book. I can't remember exactly all that's written in there but that book is really cool. It's everything you want to know about different kinds of specialization. That book covers Europe. There are descriptions about the type of work, working hours, salary, and the places in Europe where you can contact if you want to be in that field. It's just amazing. There are also other informations.
