Took College Physics I at my state univ. and got a B. Class was worth 3 cr.

Took College Physics II at CC during summer. Class worth 4 cr.

I have a total of 7 cr of Physics, while most schools say "8 cr needed".

How is this going to work, lol.

Is that all SEMESTER hours, as opposed to QUARTER hours??

Did you take LECTURE + LAB for BOTH semesters??

Yes sem hrs

I had both Lecture + Lab for both.

If I have to retake Physics I, it better replace in my application otherwise it wouldn't be helpful.

If you retook the course, your latest grade would be used in your AACOMAS GPA calculation.

I'm confused as to why a college would only give 3 credit hours for a lecture + lab course like Physics.

I'd call up the admissions office at a few schools, tell them your situation, and see what they say. 👍

Thanks a lot C Bear

3 units for lecture+ lab doesn't make sense. How many hours a week were you in lecture vs lab??

I feel your pain, OP. I also attend a university where 3 hours of semester credit is given for one general physics class...and yes, WITH a lab. The lab meets once a week and lasts usually more than 2 hours. So, in order to receive 8 hours of physics credit, I will have to take General Physics I-III. My friends who attend other universities and colleges in the state are astounded when I tell them this...I have no idea why it is set up this way.

My state's only MD school seems very supportive of this also...they have a clause written into their admissions policy saying that you must take all three courses of physics if your school splits up two semesters' worth of physics into three semesters. Wow. Haha. And as far as I know, we are the only university in the state that does this.

At the university where I took Physics I, it was worth 3 cr while Physics II was worth 5 cr (did not take Physics II there).

Weird, I know

Left that university and took Physics II @ local CC during summer (best move ever in terms of money and the prof I had)

Now I have a total of 7 cr of Physics . . ergo I am sans 1 cr

Can I take just a basic Physics class or any physics class for that matter and meet the 8 cr required by medical schools

DU

Hypothetically:

What if you took a 4 credit hour physics I course that included a lab, and you retook it for 4 credits without the lab. Does this successfully replace the grade on the AACOMAS or will you have to take another laboratory by itself?

How would you get the full 4 credits if you didn't complete the lab?

aw piss

I'm just gonna take the 4 cr version at my CC. It can only help.

Thanks all for the help

If your school allows it and you have a professor or TA or whatever level of instructor your school requires to do it, it would make more sense to take a one credit independent study in physics.

You can make it a semester long project investigating the physics of something you enjoy...or maybe the physics of something medical. Basically a physics research project. Write an essay with calculations at the end like a long lab report.

Independent studies look good, b/c they show you took initiative, and in my experience they are graded easily.

I just realized I am in the same boat, although my problem is with Organic Chemistry.

Organic 1 at my undergrad university system was 3 Cr. I took Organic 2 at a community college which was 4 credits.

I will have to contact some of the DO schools I plan on applying to and see if any of my Chiropractic courses will account for the 1 Cr I would be short.

No idea why the class was broken down like this 😕

Often the 3 credit courses don't have a lab, whereas the 4 credit courses do. If that was the case w/ your courses, you actually might not meet the requirements for all of the schools, regardless. If you look, you can probably find a 1 or 2 credit Orgo lab at a school w/ 3 credit orgo lectures and/or ask to take the lab portion of their course w/out attending lectures for 1 credit.
