I have a huge problem on my hands. I had a very tough year with Physics I and ended up getting a D on it this semester. I know I'm going to retake it to improve my grade. I have only two options here, should I retake the course in the following fall or can I retake it this summer(they don't offer physics at my school in the summer so I'm gonna have to take it at another school).

I just want to know if this is all a good idea? How will med schools view this move? Does retaking courses affect their view of me as an applicant?

You have to retake a D I believe because they won't accept it. Take it whenever you can and a bad grade is not going to affect you if you do good from now on.
Is the school you're going to take it at in the summer better than your school or not? if it's not, avoid it because taking it in a less competitve school will look bad but if it's more competitve then go for it.

I'm planning on retaking it at NYU for the summer. That's the closest school to where I am today.

If you ace the retake and get an A to B+ in Physics II, the D will be redeemed. Temporary academic glitches happen. Try not to do it again.

I thought if we have a grade lower than C- in any required course, it will not be accepted?

I would spend the better part of the spring reviewing Physics using NOVA Physics or another good self-learning review book and then retake the course in the following fall.

While you could retake it in the Summer, it will be a condensed course. My fear is, if you couldn't handle it over a 4-month span, what makes you think it'd be doable with tests at the end of every week? That's largely dependent upon your own assessment of what you can handle. Best of luck.
