Due to finances and working fulltime, I am taking a few of my courses at a local CC. My A & P I and II were taught by an MD. So, I feel that I am getting a good quality education.

At this school, there are four Physics courses- an Intro, Physics I, II and III. A quarter hour is equal to 2/3 of a semester hour. So 5 credit hours is equivalent to 3.3 semester hours. Will I be OK with the Physics requirement if I take Into, I and II? Or will taking III be a huge boost in doing well on the MCAT?

I plan on taking the Chem's and upper-level Bio courses at a state university.

The requirement is 8 credit hours (or one full year) in Physics intended for Science majors. Usually, intro classes are not intended nor do they count towards science majors in which case you will need to take the 1, 2, and 3 parts. The MCAT covers lenses and other topics usually found in physics 2 at Universities so I would assume you will need "physics 3" at your CC anyway. The best bet is to call AACOMAS or one of the Osteopathic Schools and get an official answer. Good Luck

I've heard it preached up and down (by physicians, and also by sdn'ers) that prereq's should ABSOLUTELY be taken at a 4-year university.

Just in case you haven't heard that... I thought I'd throw it out there.

On another note... I spent an hour on the phone last night helping a friend dig through her transcripts and convert all the grades and figure out her EXCAT science gpa... the final score was NOT good. Her primary problem was working her rear-end off for the past 4 years... supporting herself and paying for school.

I have to give you this bit of advice.... TAKE OUT STUDENT LOANS, CUT DOWN ON THE WORK (if necessary) AND KEEP THE GRADES UP THERE! My arguments in FAVOR of loans:

1) Whatever it takes to get good grades and get into medical school.

2) If you're willing to take out a 20K car loan for that "killer" chevy cavalier (or whatever) that will do nothing but DEPRECIATE, then why wouldn't you take out loans for your brain, which will do nothing but APPRECIATE?!?!?!

3) If taking out a couple grand of student loans allows you to go to medical school and eventually earn a doctors salary 1 year earlier... it's WELL worth it. I have friends who started back to school at the same time as me, and they're JUST BEGINNING to worry about what schools to apply to. I took out the loans and went for it. Besides, time is ticking. go, Go, GO!!!!

4) Some people can "Do it all" (great grades, heavy class load, full time, family etc etc etc). I can do a LOT, but i'm not one of those "do it all people." Accept what you are/are not and move on.

5) You're going to be up to your eyeballs in debt anyway.

Best of luck.
