im finishing up a rotation right now and my preceptor tells me that the only thing she wanted to see out of students during their time with her is that they demonstrate good interpersonal skills -- and that I am doing an "incredible" job from what she's seen and because i'm getting 100% positive reviews from her patients.

on the other hand, i've gotten to do very little to demonstrate my ability to fully manage a patient. I usually do only history, physical, and assessment because of our dynamic - she just sort of takes over after i get up to the assessment. I guess I'm a little stupid about just letting it happen instead of insisting that i be allowed to formulate a full workup and plan in its entirety.

Anyway, I think if i asked her to write a letter emphasizing my interpersonal skills it would be pretty good but my question would be is that a good idea? A letter that really only emphasizes your ability to interact with patients?

I'll be getting letters in the future from my SubI's that hopefully say something about my ability to function at the level of an intern, but my question is should all of them talk about that? Can one of your letters emphasize something else?

My preceptor right now probably can't say much about my ability to fully manage a patient but I feel like I'm missing an opportunity to have someone rave about my interpersonal skills.
