what do you all think about this?
If you are extremely good looking (as a woman) or not or have a very unique look it could possibly work to your disadvantage. If you aren't extreme in any of these ways, it does nothing-at best.
You're just asking for people to make unsubstantiated judgments...so why put them?

ummm...so they'll remember you when you come interview? So that your essays and GPA and MCAT aren't disembodied but actually feel like they belong to someone with a face? I dunno. Why do surgeons meet and talk to their patients when the procedure is done under anesthesia, anyway? Why do TV news anchors wear pants, when you can't see their legs on TV? (acutally, they don't--they often wear shorts). Why does Georgetown want a copy of your credit report?

Why do you ask such questions, Broken Rubber?

I put a naked full body picture on every ap...

I believe the pictures are for verification purposes. The same picture who interviewed = same person who took the MCAT. I seriously don't think it's a beauty contest.

Oh please, just include it. Otherwise, they will wonder what is so wrong with your face that you chose to omit it. Despite what people think, I believe they actually DO use it to confirm the person who applies is the same as the person who interviews and that those two people are the same person that took the MCAT.

All of you beautiful people need to get over yourselves!

i didnt say i was beautiful. Im not even applying right now. I dont know why everyones being so sarcastic. i just read a thread by some "hot premed" and it made me curious baout this topic. thats all.

yalla...

Inti arabiyeh (inteh arabi)? Min ismick, shicklick arabiyeh.

IU reqests a passport size photo, but it is optional. It said right on the letter inviting me to interview that it would be used to help interviewers remember who you are when your file comes to the adcom for consideration.

Are you crazy?? The hype and sarcasm on sdn is seriously out of hand. you cant ask a simple question without being attacked.

Just send the pic in, it doesnt matter, and if you dont, the adcoms will think you cant follow directions, which will get you instantly rejected, and force me into a huge run-on sentence with some comma splices.

no im serious...you seem like someone new on here....

the person hotpremed just started that thread to see how long he/she can fool us into her made up scenario.

im not attacking anyone, but i dont appreciate people like hotpremed (who is no longer here on sdn) trying to lie to other sdn members thats all.

would you like it if someone seriously misinformed you on some matter? probably not.

as for your question...its for identification purposes. nothing more, nothing less.

sorry if you felt you were getting attacked. you werent. i just dont like trolls. and as for the hype and the sarcasm that exists here on sdn...its like an acquired taste...enjoy it for sdn will benefit you FAR more than it will ever annoy you. FAR MORE.

yalla, just in case you misunderstood...i think (?) jlee was referring to hotpremed here, not you. 🙂

anyway, as everyone here has said, the pics are supposed to just be for identification purposes. of course, for those creative souls out there it's always tempting to use this one little window to, well, be creative. i'm a dancer and was almost contemplating sending a professional dance pic to a university that seemed to like "non-trads". but i didn't (i'm glad i didn't...i think in the conservative realm of med school it's better to play it safe). anyway, bottom line: i think it's always nice to send it a pic of yourself looking well-groomed. if nothing else, it's going to end up probably in the orientation guide if you end up going there and it will look a tad mortifying if you're the girl with the major zoom-in-passport-photo-red-eye-see-every-pore-on-my-nose look.

ooooooooooh. good. I was really confused.

A lot of the interviews are closed-file, but the interviewers will eventually get to see all the information when the committee meets. This is simply so that the interviewers can better remember who each person was, while analyzing the file.

It is not used to verify against any other photo. If this was the case, it would be required, not optional, and all schools would be requesting the photo.

Sounds like I'm not the one who has something to be ashamed of...🙄 You're a cool guy, even if you do have the word canadian in your screen name.

thanks for clearing my name spumoni....🙂

Inti arabiyeh (inteh arabi)? Min ismick, shicklick arabiyeh. What the hell is shicklick? everything else i understood was buggin me 😀

shicklick... Come on, you know what it is. It means "you appear" or "you seem." Depending on which country you're from, of course. You may not use it. I know Egyptians speak arabic differently than Jordanians

bideck tih-key arabi ashan in khowif il nass? Haha... min wain inteh? Ana min il Urdun. Inta eckeed min il musir, mish?

okay.. now I feel really stupid. Why would anyone be at a disadvantage if they were good looking?

I would think that would help if anything.

Am I being an idiot?
