Pikeville Class of 2007

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It also has our SOMA President Chris "Wildcat" Yonts in it as well. Great guy. He has some wild stuff planned for this coming year guys, so hold on! Plus I'm going to rock y'alls osteopathic world if you join the UAAO (plug for my club lol). More on that later folks!

Just read the article. Awesome!😀

DOSouthpaw- I was wondering how the school was going to hold all 75 students. I know the second year classes on the fourth floor can only hold about 60-65 students. Are they going to build a bigger classroom? Or maybe take a few and do a PBL or systems pathways?

has anyone gotten fin. aid info yet. i am still waiting for an award letter.

I took care of my fin. aid. stuff about 3 weeks ago, I went to Mrs. Jones office and signed everything there. Which she said that I was the first one to have everything signed. She told me that you were supposed to get a letter on the info. about 2 weeks ago. Did you recieve it? If not you might want to contact her and get another one sent to you?

I finally found an apartment! Looking for a female roommate so if anybody knows a gal that needs a place, please see the wanted and housing forum for more info. See you all in a month!

Teresa Jones told me a few weeks ago that she wanted to wait until after July 1 to send out the fin aid packages so she'd know what the new interest rates would be...

I finally sold my house in Atlanta!!!

I have a signed contract for a house in Pikevegas. So, if all goes well, I'll close on July 28 and move a week later...

I have a friend that will be attending pcsom in the fall. She said that she got a letter in the mail explaining the breakdown of the financial aid and she signed it and sent it back. That was almost a month ago. I have yet to receive anything like that. Has anyone else received that?

I also received this packet three or so weeks ago.

hosofdoc: I'm not sure how the school is planning on fitting everyone in there. Here are a few ideas

1) The AOA said there was enough room. lol
2) Not everyone comes to class, even though we are suposed to.
3) By the time you get to your second year, your class will probably lose a few people...I know that's not good to say, but true. My class is either losing 4 and repeating 3 or losing 5 and repeating 2.

Now on a happier note! I am currently whipping up some really exciting stuff for the Undergraduate American Academy of Osteopthaty (UAAO) for your class. First off, I'm trying to arrange a table trade in program with Osteopathic Equipment in Kirksville. The tables PCSOM gives us are ok, but definately not the best. I'm working out a deal that if you "donate" your table to our club, then Osteopathic Equipment will give you a deep discount on the top of the line table. I wish I would have had this opportunity when I was a first year because the table OE is offering is HOT! Anyway, stay tuned, I'm working on a website for the info that should be up soon...that is if PCIT can keep the webserver up. grr... Later y'all!

Hello everyone,
I will be in the class of 2007 at PCSOM along with my best friend. We both went to undergrad here and our husbands are in the class of 2004. If anyone has any questions about the school or area in general, let me know. Can't wait to meet all of you in August!! Good luck

Hi cutes! I got three questions for you - 1) What bank would you recommend using? I would prefer one with ATMs all around. 2) I heard there was a gym down there that gives discounts to med students - do you know anything about it? And lastly 3) Can you give me any details on the dress code -- they told me business casual (guys have to wear ties and all) but can girls wear just about anything? What about sandals? I email Angel, but she hasn't gotten back to me. If you (or anybody else) can answer these questions, I would appreciate it!

Cookie Monster,
We use Community Trust Bank, they have an ATM downtown, one in WalMart, and three more elsewhere (also one on campus). They have free checking as long as you maintain a minimum balance that I think is $500. The YMCA gives student discounts. I think for a single student it's $10 a month or so. The dress code for girls is pretty lenient (sp?). Some wear khakis, some skirts, and some wear suits everyday. I think just as long as you don't wear jeans, you will be okay ( I think capris and sandals are okay). I hope I have helped you out. Oh yeah, you can wear scrubs all day on Gross days and you don't have to dress up for the days of block exams (wear your pajamas or whatever!). Let me know if you have any more questions!

Is anyone else Pikeville-bound this fall?

What is everyone's age and sex? Would like know a little about everyone.

Oh....I got my financial aid stuff figured out. Finally got Mrs. Jones to understand that i haven't received anything. Turns out my file was in with the incomplete files (it was complete though). Glad I called.

I am 25 and female.

My best friend and I are female and both 22.

Thanks cutes for all your help!

I'm 21 and female.

Did anybody else get the packet from the class of 2006 yet? It looks like it's going to be really helpful!

I got my "survival guide" and first week's schedule too. The guide should be helpful, it has some good advice. Anyone else out there?

I still haven't gotten anything!!!! AAugh! Maybe they forgot I was going😉

Four and a half weeks and counting!!! R U guys ready??😱

All I want to know is... who is this guy that needs five hours to tell me how to manage my time? 😛

I am guessing (hoping) that we get out early that day. Anyone who takes five hours to tell about time management does not have good time management skills himself!!

Did you ever get your stuff?

   Yeah I wanna know that too!

Ohhh...I can't wait till Aug. 11...and especially spending five hours of my life listen to how I should manage my time. I think that we should tell him it's going to useless because how many of us will actually take this one to heart...now what would be more useful is taking us out for beer and pizza during those five hours.

Also, 22 and male.

What is there to do in Pikeville? The only information that I can find about any of pikevilles activties is the HillBilly festival. What about hiking, watersports, biking, bars, and clubs?

As far as I know, the best place for outdoor activities around here is the Breaks State Park. It is about 45 minutes away and they have rafting, etc. There are not really any bars/clubs that are decent here. People usually go to Richmond or Lexington or even West Virginia (Williamson, Charleston, Huntington). There really is not much to do here. You can go to Applebee's and find a crowd of med students at the bar after block exams. There is a movie theatre in town. Jenny Wiley State Park is in Prestonsburg (~30 min.) and they have a lake and some outdoor stuff too. Hope I was helpful!!!

Is anyone NOT from Kentucky that got accepted? If so, please PM me and tell me your story.

yeah, i finally got my stuff now that i am not at home. my grandma has been getting my mail and i haven't gotten the chance to see it yet. it is driving me nuts because i am really excited.

to the above poster, my friend will be attending and she is from Indiana. also if you look at the class listings on the pcsom website it tells where everyone is from. there is a guy from michigan and a guy from louisiana that i know of. oh, and one from st. louis too. it is possible.

Hey Jekel I could only find the stats for the class of 2006 on the PCSOM website - could you tell me how to find our class on there? Thanks!

I don't think our class will be on there until they are sure we are all sticking around🙂

Hey 2007 people.

If any of you are arriving in Pikeville this weekend or monday and have moving boxes to trade for binders (you will need lots o' binders for all your lecture handouts), please send me a private message. I am moving to my clinical hub this week and need some more moving supplies; I'm not going to need all these binders anymore.

I'll even come over and pick up the boxes/deliver the binders.

First come, first served.

Thanks!

hey everyone!!! i am graduating from UK in two weeks, and am applying to PCSOM (as well as a few other schools). i have a couple of friends down there already, and they seem to like it. i can't wait to come visit. i really think DO is the way to go (for me at least). my gpa and mcat scores (~3.5, 29) are very competitive at UK and UofL, but i have a bit of a questionable academic history. Straight out of high school i did very poorly. I subsequently left school for 4 years. Since returning, I was fortunate enough to be granted academic bankruptcy from my prior record, and have done reasonably well while working full time in several different health care settings. i have worked as a CNA in the heart center (cardiac surgical) at Good Sam in cincy, as a phlebotomist at UofL, and (for the last year) doing cancer research through the Division of Infectious Diseases at UK. My questions are: how bad will my academic bankruptcy hurt me? will my work experience help to negate that? is a 3.5 still considered good if it includes a couple C's? Sorry for being so long winded, but any thoughts would be appreciated. thanx!!!

ps. i intended to post this only on this thread but it is also on as it's own thread. so if you've already seen it -- my apologies!

Hey! who has moved already? I will be moving this weekend! I am excited.😀

Only 2 more weeks, you guys!!!:wow:

I know! I am starting to have some really strange dreams. I had one the other night where we were two weeks into school and they sprung the boards on us (they said it was a new rule!) I woke up freaked!😱

OMG!!!! I am so anxious to start, but I'm really nervous as well.

I haven't even signed all my fin. aid stuff yet. Is it just me or is the Financial Aid office impossible to get ahold of by phone. Anyone know their office hours. I might drive down later this week just to get that stuff taken care of.

I know that Jeanne Kreutzer is on vacation right now. It seems like Teresa Jones has been out of the office a lot this summer (meetings?). If I were you, I would just go to the school and talk to Angel Hamilton, maybe she can help you. Their hours are from 9-5, but don't go during lunch time (11-2, usually). If no one is there, I sometimes just leave my stuff on Angel's desk somewhere she can find it with a note. Good luck.

Jekel-
Glad to see that I'm not the only one who is having odd dreams, I had one about the boards too!!! Mine was that I woke up and thought I over slept.

I took care of the fin. aid info. up at the school, it took me a grand total of ten mintues to finalize (I know it doesn't see possible to actually sign your life away in that amount of time).

Hey you all - I'm moving down this saturday 😱 is the summer really over?? Do any of you guys know what kind of internet connection is available for residential areas? I would like something faster than dial up if possible..... I saw bellsouth offers dsl - is there any other options? See you all soon!

Cookie Monster,
Did you get the last PM I sent you a while back?

No cutes, I was wondering if you got mine....or if I had just bugged you too much! 😕

I am actually moving this saturday too. I don't know what I was thinking in my last post when i said i was moving that weekend. I was on vacation and lost track of what day it was! Where are you moving from Cookie Monster? My drive is only three hours (not too bad) from Louisville.

Slowly moving in... Stop by, say whats up 🙂 Anthony Suites Rm 203

If you are going to stop by and see Buster...might as well come one more door down to Apt. 202 and pay a visit to me.

We only have one week of freedom remaining!!!!😱 :wow: +pity+

I got all of my stuff moved down there. That was pure Hell! Where are the Anthony Suites? I haven't seen them.

Hi Folks,
I just made it to "the 'ville" on Saturday. Am slowly unpacking now. PM me to get together prior to Monday...
Cheers!
