hey all,
i just got back from my pitt interview today and i spoke to Joey (one of the ladies at the desk) about the delay in secondaries...she said it's just cause they switched to rolling this year and they have a new dean that isn't working too fast since she's handeling two jobs, and joey still has a stack of apps that she herself hasn't looked at, yet alone everyone else who needs to review it before they send the secondary or the interview invite...so keep faith! 🙂

For those of you who've interviewed or gotten the 2ndary:

When was your AMCAS complete? I'm still waiting to hear anything from Pitt.

I was complete in June, and I just got the Pitt secondary yesterday. I'm out-of-state, so maybe that contrbuted to the incredible slowness...

As I've said a few times, I was complete 6/22 and haven't received the secondary. I'm in state, but I'm not sure if that matters. It's good to hear that there's a reason they're behind.

if i decide to fill it out it'll be asap. the waiting part of my last post was a joke as they waited nearly 2 months to even send me a secondary...

I submitted my secondary yesterday and woke up to an interview invite today! Woah!

Thanks, Tigress 🙂. The word count was a pain in the butt, especially on the ethics one. I ultimately got down to 246 but not without significant effort!

I just got an unsolicited email from Pitt (requesting a return receipt), telling me to be patient during the screening process. The intrigue continues....

I got that email too, but I don't see where it requests any acknowledgement.

On mine it was part of the actual email function. As in, on my email client, a button came up and said "the sender requests a receipt notification" or something to that effect.

I got the same email.. I think the request for a read receipt is part of Microsoft Outlook. If you're using another mail program, I am not sure if it has that function.

This probably means that upon initial review of our AMCAS, we are not granted an automatic secondary or interview. I was verified by AMCAS on 07/06.. Or maybe it just means that they just got around to my AMCAS application.

I read it more like: "We know that you all think that we're painfully slow and pathetically inept, but please don't forget about us just because you're well along in the process with every other school to which you applied, while we're still sitting here picking our noses." 😛

yeah i think i've been on the same timeline as tigress for everything else, but unfortunately i didn't get a secondary. this is the email i guess they send those who don't qualify for a secondary:

Before you hear from us regarding a secondary application, The

Screening takes approximately 3-4 weeks after the physical arrival of
your verified AMCAS application to our office. *We started screening
applications around the 15th of August. *We will notify you either way

IT seems they know who they are going to interview before they send out the secondary, then when they send it out they also send out an interview invite. I havent seen anyone complete the secondary, pay the fee, and then get an invite. I hope this isnt the case.... paying 75 bills for nothing.

So I'm about to submit my secondary. I don't have second semester physics yet, but there's nowhere for me to explain why not, and that I intend to take it. I'll just have to assume they will ask me about that if they want to, but won't hold it against me just yet.

Don't worry yet. I am a Pitt student and I got my interview invite months after submitting my secondary. Yet, here I am.

YO! I got the same email about noon today and a secondary three hours later. Don't fret. Perhaps I will get an interview invite three hours after submitting the 2ndary?

When were you verified, just out of curiosity? I'm just trying to figure out if they're sending them, albeit slowly, based on AMCAS verification date or if they're just sending them out in random fashion. Thanks

Anyone know if the 250 word limit is strict? Did anybody try to submit with more? Its a pain in the a$$ to wittle down an already wittled down 338 word essay into a 250 word essay. When I'm done, the points I'm trying to get across will bear no resemblance to the original 😡 .

K, seriously everyone, you guys are freaking out WAY too much. Whoever made the announcement that Pitt sends out the secondary 2 weeks after the AMCAS if selected has done a major disservice in worrying all you guys so much. I submitted my AMCAS to Pitt around mid August, didn't get a secondary until around october. This was back in the paper application days. Apparently now they seem to take only about a month. Since they prescreen, there is no way it's gonna take only 2 weeks.

About the word limit on the essay, I exceeded the moral dilemma essay by at least 200 words. But again, this was easier to get away with when the application was not computerized.

Yeah, its not the work that bothers me. Its that I have a very good essay thats a little too long. After I chop out 90 words it won't get the same points across. Oh well, they can't be expecting too much from a 250 word essay 🙄 .

Yeah, I felt the same way. Actually my mother helped me cut it down quite a bit and still retain my meaning. But I do think you can't really elaborate on the issue much in 250 words. I'm sure they're just expecting something simple.

i am just tired of waiting. tired of waiting for the slow inconsiderate premed committee, tired of waiting for file completion, tired of waiting for secondaries, tired of waiting for interview invites that don't come....
