Pitt early october interviewers

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed the first week of October and have yet to hear anything. I'm really hoping for some good news soon....

Heard nothing yet.

yeah, me neither, first week interview

Interviewed October 2nd, waitlisted (got a letter in the mail last wednesday). No news is good news.

don't they review apps on wednesdays? i think i had heard that somewhere . . .

Do they reject many people post-interivew or do they just dump every non-acceptance into the waitlist?

i don't see any new additions to the acceptance thread, but has anyone heard from Pitt recently??

Just got back from my interview. They said it's the standard rejected/accepted/waistlisted within 3-5 weeks after the interview. It's a great school; I don't see it being a "backup" school for a lot of people. That said, their most recent stat was 900 interviews for 148 spots. I really don't see them wailisting more than maybe 50-70% at most, but who knows, maybe they're planning for an acceptance-decline catastrophe.

I interviewed the first week of October and just got an email from my student interviewer informing me that I have been accepted! So excited. 🙂 Good luck to all!

Awesome, congrats!! Pitt is by far my number one choice at this point. Did you make email contact with your interviewer before being accepted, or do you think it's standard practice to get an email from them? I forgot to get contact info for my student interviewer, so I'm not sure how I'm going to even send her a thank you!

What's up with the interviewers emailing us? is this the only way we're going to find out? God I interviewed in early October too, hopefully we'll here something tomorrow, even if it's a rejection I just want to hear smt.

got my fingers crossed for you...may an acceptance come your way :luck:

there was a thread from a few weeks ago that indicated some interviewers didn't contact their interviewees about the acceptance, and so they heard about it via mail. hang in there.

i interviewed the second week in october and also just received an email from my interviewers telling me i was accepted. stay positive, maybe your letters are on the way also! good luck! :luck:

It seems to be variable in terms of timing. I interviewed in late September, and got an acceptance email from my interviewer yesterday, so I don't think everyone falls into one timeline. Hang in there. Best of luck.

You can call them and they will tell you whether your file went to committee yet. But they don't give out the decision over the phone to you. So that just probably increase the anxiety.

Man, so many acceptances here! That's great, congrats everyone!

it sounds as though what they *might* do is cycle back some completed applications for later consideration, rather than accept/reject/waitlist the first time they consider the application.

When I was there the dean told me they didn't do that. She said they would have a final decision whenever your file goes to committee (accept/reject/waitlist).

They told us the same thing. Although they appear to be filthy liars.

Lol. They gave me a 3-5 week timeframe for a response, but did anyone get an actual figure for how often the committee meets?

My interviewer gave me his email, so I wrote a quick thank you note. But I don't think the interviewers are obligated to notify applicants of acceptances, the ones who do just want to send their congrats!

I interviewed late september, and my app has not gone to committee yet.:scared:

I interviewd the first week of Oct. and just got an Acceptance email from my faculty interviwer!! I am so happy since Pitt is my very first choice!!!!

Have faith guys!!!!! I wish you all the best of luck!!!!! 😍

Yeah definitely congrats everybody.

Now everybody knows Pitt is a great school, but what do you guys think about Pittsburgh? It looked like it's a pretty dead town.

It may be more "dead" than other cities, but it's at least a MUCH nicer city than many other's I've visited that have medical schools. It seems like bad areas just grow up around hospitals.

i guess it makes sense since large hospitals are best used to serve urban cities.

i'm not a big city person so pittsburgh is def big enough for me. besides, they have a freakin fullsize T-rex skeleton in the airport! anyone else catch that when riding on the escalators? how bad ass is that.

YES!!! I thought that was really really cool.

Yeah I caught that too. But I don't know if that totally changes my mind

Hehe... Most people think the school is great, but the town does suck quite a bit.

So why do people find the city of Pittsburgh undesirable? When I went for the interview, it seems like a pretty nice medium sized city to me.

I think it's more that people have just seen nicer places during their interviews. It's not that it's a bad city as much as there are better cities to compare it with. Personally, I think it's a great city when you're also looking at Memphis or Philadelphia. At least as far as beauty, that is. If your priority is to find a city with a great nightlife and a great medical school.....well, whatever works for you I guess.

It's definitely not a BAD town, I'm just saying it's pretty dead because of two things:
My friend goes to CMU and he said that their population growth rate is negative and all the young people are leaving.
And then when I went to stay with my student host who stayed at the area where all the students are supposed to be, I knocked on the wrong door and this 80 year old dude opened the door. SO this is the area right next to 3 MAJOR universities. Take this for what it's worth😀

Edit: And hell, if I got accepted I couldn't care less, I would go there without a pause.

i didn't check out the nightlife, but a big plus is that there are plenty of day-to-day amenities (restaurants, shops, museums, parks) immediately surrounding the school. i think it would be great to go to school in an area with many daily amenities a walk away.

now there are schools in what people would call exciting cities that don't have as many amenities around them: aecom, downstate, university of chicago, ui-c, rush. exciting cities also tend to be big cities, which means you're going to have to travel a good bit to get to the good stuff.

so i would argue it's not simply a matter of looking at overall city amenitites, but considering what amenities are in proximity of the school. pitt may still lose in terms of nightlife, but i would strongly argue that it's ahead of several new york and chicago schools in terms of accessing daily amenities.

other pluses: pitt students ride the bus for free and med students told me a car was unnecessary, so one could save a lot of money there; pittsburgh is a very scenic city, with better outdoor opportunities nearby compared to some other big cities.

Unnecessary is a bit of a stretch. If you get on a rotation in Altoona or St. Margarets... you're going to need a car. Even some of the places that are less far away will demand a car out of convenience. Then there's getting groceries and other stuff... if you don't have a car, you're going to be "that person" that is always mooching rides off of your friends or "that person" that is always asking people to switch rotations so you can have a more convenient location.

I finally called the office today (I interviewed 2nd week of October), and they had a meeting on Wed. I will find next week....hopefully good news :luck: *I'm hoping to get an e-mail before that...if not...I'll wait and see what the envelop holds

I interviewed first week of October and they said my file "should be going to committee soon," whatever that means. I vaguely remember hearing Wedesday for adcom meetings as well. Don't remember if its weekly, or every other week though.

i didn't get the impression that there is this "that person" issue among students. in fact, two students told me that i shouldn't be the person who thinks he needs a car rather than take the free city buses to get around (like i saw so many other people do around campus). as for rotations, i thought the overwhelming majority were in the hospitals on campus. i doubt it would be hard to rotate on campus, and is switching a matter of asking another student? no school has left me to think it is anything other than a centralized process, and all have told me of students who rotate exclusively at certain hospitals.

I just got an acceptance to pit from my student interviewer!

My interview date was 10/16 -

good luck to the rest of your guys!

Yikes, I interviewed on the 17th and thought there was plenty of time before I'd hear anything. Now I'm a little more anxious. How late after the e-mails did you guys hear by mail?
