This thread is perfect for my neuroticism. I had a nightmare last night that I didn't get in...I need to stop counting down the minutes until Friday...
 
everytime someone posts on this thread, I have this horrible feeling that emails have been sent/acceptance packets have been received and I've been left in the dust...who will be first? time will tell (I say we give a gold star to the first acceptee to post.)
 
I just called and the secretary said no final decisions have been sent out...final decisions go out either this week or next week. sigh. more waiting...
 
I haven't interviewed at Pitt yet, but they haven't rejected me yet either.....does anyone know if Pitt is still conducting interviews?

I called them today and I was told that "correspondance" is going to be sent. Does the word "correspondance" mean e-mail correspondance...or a rejection letter??

That doesnt sound good, sorry. They send invites by email, and I think they would have told you if you were invited. Most schools if you call and have been invited they will let you schedule.

As for everyone else, the waiting is killing me also. Everytime I see that I have something in my inbox I get all excited and am hoping for an email from my student interviewer.
 
i hear ya zeke. it seems like everywhere i interviewed has pushed back the supposed date when i would find something out. (they told me in november that pitt would send out letters on 3/1).

i gotta get away from my computer; time to go for a run.

I would offer to be Gustav Glub, but I don't think falling into a sea of brown sludge and being sucked into the bowels of Presby would be a good way to start off the year...

Oh wow!!! I'm so nervous now!!!!!! What happened with the e-mails from students? Has anyone gotten one? Have any current students who are involved with the interview process heard about any acceptees??

that's great to hear, and rather annoying for me since our spring break is next week, so i'll be away from the mail starting friday afternoon. assuming what dr. oct said is accurate, anyone know whether they'd tell me my status if i called them friday afternoon? it's not just being anxious - there's usually a 2-week limit to respond to an acceptance, and if i got one i wanna be sure i let them know that i accept it ASAP.

good luck to everyone, especially those for whom pitt is their true #1 choice.

Oh crap I just read that more carefully .. the "first batch of acceptances" .. that means no letter = :scared: gasp!

Quideam: Nope, no E-mail from the student int. for me. I heard that that was the case last year but nobody "in the loop" has said whether they are doing that this year. Good luck!

same here, pitt is almost my #1, and i'm 90% sure i'll go there if accepted. it's a great school that always seems to be on the rise.
 
I figure I'll jump in here at the last minute. I really loved just about everything about Pitt when I visited. Best of luck to y'all. The day of reckoning is near.
 
Just to clarify things, the admissions office will be letting us know withing a few days which of our interviewees were accepted so that we may call or email them for congratulations. Last year, I got an email from my student interviewer several days after I got the packet. It is possible that you will be contacted before the letter, after the letter, or not at all by your interviewer. If you get accepted, I strongly urge you to come to the second look weekend. Happy waiting, and don't worry if you don't get one of the initial letters. There is usually substantial waitlist movement.

thanks for the info...now, i'm really on pins and needles because if i don't get anything by monday or tuesday, i'm gonna sit in a corner and cry. okay, maybe not that dramatic, but i'll be really sad.🙁

Thanks so much for all the inside information. Out of curiousity, do you know more information about the waitlist movement (approximately how much of current class got in off the waitlist?)

I don't think anyone ever told us exactly how many people came off the waitlist, but I think they said it was a pretty substantial amount. I know that there were 400+ interview offers for 150 spots. I think it boils down to roughly half of those interviewed being accepted. My guess is at least 1/3 of the class is from the waitlist.

Just curious, why would you choose UPitt over the other non-rolling schools you are waiting on? They are definetly a lot closer to home for you.

Good question!! I'm not sure if I would... the thing is, when I visited the school, I LOVED it - it's really perfect for me in every way except for the distance. So, I really just don't know. I honestly don't think that i'm going to be lucky enough to get into more than 1 of the 4 schools, considering the kinds of people they take, so I'm going to go to whichever place takes me (and hopefully one of them does!!!!). So, to answer your question, I honestly have no idea whether I would go with Pitt over any of the others... I know that Penn is my top choice, but after that, I just have no idea. I don't think that I need to even worry about that, considering the odds of actually having to make such a choice. So, here's to more worrying... 🙁
 
a little update: i can confirm the letters have NOT been sent out yet. in fact, according to someone in the admissions office i spoke with this morning, the letters probably won't even get off the pitt campus before saturday or monday because (i'm guessing this part) the letters have to go through some type of central processing where they're stamped. so, it would seem that actual snail mail stuff won't be arriving till late next week at the earliest. here's hoping that the student interviewers get their lists soon and email the good news themselves.

So, being OCD, I have gone through last year's Pitt countdown thread a few 100 times.

I guess the adcom meets every Wednesday, which is why status updates are done on Thursdays. In both 2002 and 2003, the big admit day was a Wednesday. The Pitt admissions personnel stuffed envelopes all day Friday. Student interviewers began emailing acceptees on the next Monday. Snail mail letters started to arrive on the next Wednesday. Looks like there is more waiting ahead.

Ah heck! This is taking forever! Oh well, I guess anything good is worth waiting for . . . I never thought it would take them so long to mail, being that they had six months to gear up!

man i wish they asked us those questions. seeing as how i'm from pittsburgh i would have a merit scholarship in the bag. not to mention a nice acceptance.

Haha. Does it ever help! I probably have made more posts in the last two weeks than my whole career combined! Ok maybe not . . . but . . . a lot.
 
oops there are 4 questions....


Thats why pitt is having a delay in sending out final decisions. They calculated their acceptances as if there were 3 questions!

Also, I am from pittsburgh and i have heard it pronounced both younz and yinz so.......I guess you get an automatic acceptance too. (If i was in charge, that is)

my girlfriend is a first year at pitt and has been checking in with people she knows in admissions, her word is that letters went out yesterday. they went through some internal mail thing first, which will slow them down, but we should hear next week. basically this is not useful information at all but I thought I'd throw it out there as I have nothing better to do until it arrives.
 
Does anyone know what the acceptance envelope looks like...vs the waitlist or rejection? Is it a big packet, or is it a letter?
