I've been accepted to Pitt and Temple Dental school. I'm trying to determine which I would prefer to attend. . Can any current Pitt student tell me if research is required in dental school?

This sounds like something that would be incredibly simple to just call the school and ask. "Are dental students required to conduct research?" You might get an answer much faster than waiting here.

No, but if you despise research that much you'll be much happier at Temple.

Although it's not required at either, I've gotten the feeling it's still encouraged at Pitt (I've chosen to attend Pitt over Temple next year, in case you're wondering) much more than at Temple, where they even stated during my interview if you like research you'd be better off at UPenn. I thought Temple did a much better job pushing the clinical experience their students get, but I chose Pitt partly based on the school's interest in research.

Upon further research it is my understanding that it is offered during the summer and a stipens is given to those that participate. With the course load I don't see how anyone can fit in research. The first year alone includes over 71 credits. Not certain why Pitt's 2nd term is so loaded. Does anyone have any insight.
Also..just wondering if you want to pursue dentistry, GP or specialty what advantage do you see in spending time doing research?

I have an interest in craniofacial defects and I aspire to specialize in OMFS. Pittsburgh sponsors the Center for Craniofacial and Dental Genetics for research in the subject.

Is it true that if you want to specialize, Pitt would be a better fit? isn't temple known for producing very strong general dentists?
