Pitt screening

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm not sure how much I buy into this. I know it supposedly came from Pitt's website, but come on.... several people accepted had a 43 or above on the MCAT? That's interesting. I thought only a few people across the country scored above a 42.

Even if we assume that's true, why in God's name would they make that information part of a general public announcement? That sort of information would intimidate even the strongest of applicants and provides little useful knowledge to the average applicant.

Furthermore, I personally know three students with less than a 3.25 GPA who were accepted at Pitt. From what I have gathered pitt cares more about the diversity and attributes the applicant can bring rather than numbers alone.

Hey guys, I am fairly certain that isn't from the med school, but from the Pitt undergrad premed advising people... Therefore, take that into consideration when reading that...

I would again take this with a grain of salt, but I don't think that it is unbelievable that students would have a 43 on the MCAT. Pitt is somewhat unique in that they offer twelve four year full ride merit scholarships each year which they offer to people who are likely going to go into academic medicine. Depending on which area you want to go into, Pitt has some of the strongest programs in the world. This combination means that they recruit a select group of students who have rather crushing credentials. is this the class as whole? no. but it's definetly out there. don't be freaked out about this MCAT or pre-screen thing.

Not only is it highly unbelievable, it is a blatant lie. Check the stats released by the AAMC in the MSARs from the past two years. The highest MCAT accepted last year was a 43, and the year before that it was a 42. This is according to the AAMC, not some offhand Pitt-propaganda website. Pitt's a terrific school, no doubt. But come on, you can't buy into this crap that random people post on the net.

yeah youre right its a load of crap. but like i said, its not verified information, but its information. just the kind of stuff that gets posted to SDN so others can see it before they determine its validity. 😎

thanks for checking up on that. It's nice to know that there aren't hoardes of people floating around with 42-43 MCAT scores at Pitt. Just so its clear, i wasn't trying to affirm this report only to say that there are some super smart kids in our class.

I bet this document has a lot of BS in it. Those screening criteria seem very very low. i wonder who put this sheet together and when the information is from. Pitt has become more competitive but I doubt any time recently they were accepting lots of 25mcat 3.25gpa applicants. I don't know the average scores of applicants last year, but it seems ike this cut off is quite wrong. I would take this info sheet out back and shoot it between the eyes especially because it doesn't come from the medical school admissions office. Pitt undergrad and Pitt med are two quite different situations and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a breakdown in communication between the two. I would talk to the admissions office directly about this if there are questions as they are really quite friendly. cheers.
