good morning! I was recently placed on Pitt's waitlist..."high priority waitlist". I contacted the school to learn a little more about how many students get waitlisted and if there is a difference between "high priority" verse a general waitlist. They were unable to answer those questions.

I was wondering... I've noticed alot of people on here have either been accepted or waitlisted at Pitt. If you have been waitlisted do you know if everyone is on this "high priority waitlist" or is that just what they tell everyone? Also, does anyone know how many students get waitlisted in general?

Just upon first impression, I would think "high priority" would imply you're in the top portion of the list. I'm not exactly sure though how Pitt categorizes their wait list though.

In my opinion, that would be kind of shady if they used that same description for everyone on the list regardless of how high/low ranked they are. Did they give any reason why they couldn't answer what "high priority" meant? Did they just refuse to answer?

I corresponded with them via e-mail and my question was not addressed. I did not want to push it further. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally excited to be placed on high priority, but I just wanted to know what differenciated someone on high priority vs. general and if others got a similar response.

Yeah, I think you have a reasonable question. It's too bad they didn't offer additional clarification.

I'm from the Pittsburgh area and know a few people who were also put on the "high priority" wait list, but they were unsure what exactly it meant as well. If anything, I would try calling the department and asking the questions over the phone versus email. Good Luck!

Not sure if this helps.. but for Pitt, I was put on the "wait list" so i guess there are two different priorities?

Same here, I was put on the "wait list", not the "high priority wait list".

I consider myself lucky, Pitt has a good program, and I didn't even expect to hear back from them.
