Hey all....I've been reading these forums for a long time, but I finally decided to register today.

I'm almost through with the interview season, and I'm wondering if anyone out there has comments on Pittsburgh's General Surgery categorical residency. I read one in another thread, but I was hoping to have a specific thread What did people think about the residents? Were they happy in your opinion? Thoughts about the reputation of the program? Are the research years limited to basic science only?

I think my decision has come down to PGH vs. Wash U vs. Vanderbilt? Anyone else comparing these schools?

Thanks.

I visited University of Pittsburgh and I thought the residents were generally happy. From my understanding the research years are limited to basic science research due to the chairman's interest in basic science. In addition to the basic science research most residents do participate in clinical research. Chairman's influence seen in the addition of a research month during internship. In general I believe the program has a great reputation and is well respected.
Good luck with you decision.
Just my opinion on my visit.
