Can someone explain why Pituitary Dwarfism is associated with decreaded wt? If you have a decrease in GH (pit dwarfism)..would that not lead to the child being OVERWT, not underwt ?? (contrary to what is stated in Goljan RR 2nd ed pg 496/ 3rd ed pg 485) " pituitary dwarfism - decreased weight and short stature" - goljan.

also found this:

[[Body composition (i.e., the relative amounts of bone, muscle, and fat) is affected in many children with severe deficiency, so that mild to moderate chubbiness is common (though GH deficiency alone rarely causes severe obesity).]] quoted fr WIKI:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Growth_hormone_deficiency#Treatment_in_childhood

Wouldn't losing the catabolic effect of GH on lipolysis cause one who has a deficiency to gain weight? True they will lose ms mass because of decreased protein synthesis, but which of these will effect the patient more in changing their weight?

please explain .. thx

less GH = less bone, muscle, and dense materials.

chubbines = fat = less dense.

5'5 musclar buff guido = 160 lbs
4' fat dwarf = 120 lbs.. though the muscular buff guido has a bigger body.
