If I don't get into Med School, what kind of masters program would be best to do before reapplying? Biology? Chemistry?

Thanks in advance!

I would consider a post-bacc program.

They are available at:

University of North Texas Health Sciences Center

and

Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences

among many others.

As for a master's, I would recommend Biology, as that's really all we do in medical school. I've seen very little chemistry.

You for sure need to do a master's in the sciences.

hmmmm.....how about a masters in public health? Someone told me that many USC med students who had gotten a masters got one in publich health. Does anyone think the Georgetown program is a good idea? It sounds incredibly tough....

I got a MS in Nutrition after a BS in Bio and my interviewers loved it. They all thought it was a great addition to medical school, mostly bc there is not a lot covered in classes. Plus, many diseases have origin in poor nutrition, ie CVD,diabetes etc.
Hope this helps!

Get a PA degree, work for 3 years, meet and get recs from people in the field, save half of what you make and graduate from med school debt free (albeit 9-10 years from now)

Any graduate degree will help some. And if you don't have GPA problems, an MPH or MS in Nutrition (like the other posters listed), or any other non-science degree might be okay.

However ... if you have a weak undergraduate GPA or a low MCAT, you need to demonstate that you can do well in pure science courses. Because of this, a masters degree in biology, chemistry, or physics would be the best way to go.

Alternatively, you can do a post-bacc program. But if you are trying to redeem yourself academically, stick to biology, chemistry, and physics.

Tulane programs in Molecular bio, etc 1 year are something too, I think you have probably missed the deadline to apply though too most of them. Maybe check out NYMC basic science masters (2 yr) program. Or just go to the http://hpap.syr.edu/pblist.htm and scroll down til you find a program that suits your interest and point in education.
