There are mutiple state schools in my state. So if I withdrew and reapplied to the other state schools, wouln"t they be more likely to brush this whole stint under rug next cycle. After all, they have an interest in taking people in state
Also, I had a DO accept earlier in the cycle that I withdrew from. If I withdrew from MD, and said that I regained an interest in OMM instead, would DO schools look at me favorably?
You are missing the point entirely and, like many premeds, view everything thru naive and optimistic eyes and cannot fathom the reality of just how negative this will be viewed by adcoms. Immediately understand this: adcoms at MD and DO will universally view this as a HUGE negative on several of the major characteristics they seek on prospective physicians
1) research into the field: Why would you have suddenly found an interest in OMM? Why did not explore this at all during your preparation as a premed during your 4 years of college? does this show you are impulsive? do not look at things in depth? do you really have even the basic understanding of medical school or the medical profession at all?
2) judgement: You have at least 3 chances to not be in this situation yet you always took the wrong path
-you could have retaken the MCAT before you applied
-you could have chosen not to apply to this school
-you could gave withdrawn your application after interview but before acceptance
You chose to apply with this score, to this school, and not withdraw.
3) motivation: is your motivation to be a good physician or impress your classmates?
4) commitment: If you went thru all this but are ready to give it up, why should any school, MD or DO, even bother to spend the time consider your application when you might just not follow thru an acceptance with them
This is not some opinion but from my decades of experience in and around medical admissions. You will be viewed as impulsive, naive, lack of good judgement, motivation of questionable nature, perhaps vain and self-aggrandizing, applicant whos is above all a risk on committing to the several years of medical training. In short, an idiotic fool. I can not see any medical school in the US reconsidering you
As I said before, you should quit now, give your seat up to someone who will appreciate it, and go ahead and try. But when you wonder 5-10 -20 years from now, why you doing something other than medicine, and regret your decision, just make sure you think of me and how I told you what would happen.
