What would you recommend I can do before the fellowship, starting 2013, to reinforce my application?
I am interested in research.
Thanks.

Fellowship in what? Is your application weak for some reason? Prior research experience? Interest in eventual academic or PP gig?

ID.
I do not have a strong research experience.
Academic is more attractive, but I consider to have both inpatient with academic and outpatient.
Any ideas?

Why do you feel that you need to improve your CV? Major red flags on your app? ID is in no way competitive so a decent applicant with middle of the road board scores coming from a decent residency will find plenty of opportunities.

No red flags at all. Good scores, LORs.
I just do not know
what to do next year. It was the question.

Be a hospitalist. Do UC work. Do locums and get some travelling done. Sell crack (not a serious suggestion).

Whatever you do, make some money. DO NOT be a chief (if that option is still open) or do some ridiculous non-boarded fellowship just to have something to do.

If you really feel like you need some research for your CV, work PT as a hospitalist and do some clinical research with somebody in the ID division.

Thank you, gutonc. 🙂
