Hello all,

So there I am looking at the Campbells bio book and comparing it to what is posted to be on the DAT from the ADA website http://www.ada.org/sections/educationAndCareers/pdfs/dat_examinee_guide.pdf

From the ADA DAT guide I noticed that there is a heavy emphasis on animal systems...but not a whole lot on plant systems.

There are 5 chapters in Campbells dedicated to plants (chapters 35-39) - is it necessary to go over these chapters? Everyone keeps saying that the whole campbells book is free game for the DAT...has anyone seen anything on the DAT for these 5 chapters dedicated to plants?

If you have the Kaplan Blue Book, or if you can make a trip to a bookstore, look at what they include for plants in terms of photosynthesis and anatomy, they probably made it with a fairly decent idea in mind of what could be on the DAT in those areas. After that you could compare what you found in the KBB to those Campbell chapters. I imagine if there was a huge section in Campbell not found in the KBB, it probably won't be on the DAT, and maybe minor things Campbell covers in more detail for stuff you saw in the KBB you could cover.

Disclaimer: I haven't taken the DAT, just giving my opinion. If you do what I suggested above, you also might be able to come back to the forum and post specific things/sections/topics missing from KBB (but in Campbell) and ask this same question again.

Thanks for the input! I was just looking over the KBB and saw the dismal amount of plant info compared to the 100 pages in Campbells hence my hesitation for trusting KBB and other dedicated "all in one" DAT review resources

Yeah, I would and have never put all my eggs in one basket, so to speak. I personally use Campbell's, KBB, Cliffs, Destroyer bio, and Khan academy together for this section.

If I had my way, I'd completely change the bio pre-reqs, and that part of the exam accordingly; as it stands now I don't feel as if I'm going into a specialized area of medicine, but rather preparing to become a lab/research scientist in 5 fields at once. 😉
