Which osteopathic school would I want to attend to have the best chances of getting a plastic surgery residency? 😀

Not positive, but I would guess NYCOM or PCOM. Maybe even DMU.

The one that prepares you well enough to score 95%+ on both COMLEX and USMLE. School is what you make of it. Rocking the boards will overcome the school, whereas the school attended will not overcome mediocre stats.

I also was told from the air force recruiter that there were four plastic surgery spots that went unfilled. Is that true, or is it just his tactics to get me to sign up?

AZCOM is suppose to have the highest pass rates on the COMLEX

Hi, I have heard from several alums and people affiliated with PCOM that it puts out the most specialists. Either way, I think the location provides awesome opportunity to network. Definately go someplace u will be happy though, i'm sure it is possible to specialize from wherever as long as you work hard towards that goal, some places may just make it an easier objective (in regards to residency, etc...). just my thoughts.

A pass rate and getting a 95% on the exam are 2 different things.

DMU has extremely high match rates for residencies. Last year 95% of their students got their 1st or 2nd choice residency. I am not sure how many of them ultimately went into plastics, but having high match rates at your school SUGGESTS that you could have a good chance of getting what you want.

ohio and philly have the only two approved DO post grad plastics positions, whether or not that means you can get them is a whole other story

I guess if I went military it wouldn't matter as much anyways

Your best bet would be to do a DO General Suregery Residency and then a Plastic Fellowship but many contend that you really are not a qualified plastic surgeon. IF you are talking about a Allopathic spot, good luck.
See below post.

Is it possible for a DO to get a plastics spot?
