I am a dentist from India. Completed my grad in dec 2009...applied to a lot of schools...interviewed in NYU and USC but waitlisted....

My stats are 86/3.51/111

I need some advice on how to move forward...i have seen a lot of students joining MPH and MHA in US...i wanted to know does anybody have an idea of a masters in dental public health from UK? is that a good option? considering the fact that is only of 1 year? does it make sense joining it? it will start in september 2011...will that affect my 2011 CAAPID cycle? i mean will this be considered that i am enrolled into masters program?

Does part 2 really help? Should i be giving it? Somewhere in july / august ?

I have done whatever volunteer i could do in canada in the last six months...now moving back to india and preparing for next CAAPID cyle and masters in UK?

Please advice

Thanks a lot in advance

I feel you should focus on one country.

Unless you really want to do MPH, will it really be of any use going to the UK?

It is not uncommon for people to apply a second year and get multiple acceptances.

I would call the school u had applied to this year, find out what went wrong, focus on my hand skills for CA schools, work on my resume by doing research, voluntary work (In India) - yes, whatever volunteering you do, its never enough.

Going to the UK may leave little time for u to focus on US admission and you may not be where the action is durin interview season.

thanks a lot for the reply..!!
now the reason i thought about uk was only after so many students enrolled in a masters program during my interviews..!! now i din gre and was late for applying to us school..!! as an alternative thats the best option i had..!! have been doing volunteer work in the past 6 months in canada and now its time for me to go back to india....i was wondering how much the dental school give importance to any work in india...!! anyways the point is masters is of one year..!! it wont be a complete even if i get into a school next year..!! yes preparing for the bench tests will be a problem..but i gotta give this a shot?? isnt it ? shouldn't i ? i have done all i could to improve my resume..!! what if i dont get next year 2? 2 years without a degree...wont that be a waste ?

yo squadron... it matters WHEN you apply to a university for the advanced placement program... the earlier u apply the better chance u have of getting accepted... u say u graduated in dec. 2009... if u applied sometime in sept-nov of 2010, then yes its harder to get in (not impossible obviously, just harder) .. i'd say apply again as early as u can, and study for ur part 2 in the meantime.

Voluntary work anywhere is given credit.
You may consider doing a preceptorship at a US school.
I still believe that you should focus on US schools.
U did not tell us if u called / contacted the schools you had applied to and what they told you.

should i contact all the schools i applied to and ask what went wrong? u think that will help ? m guessing my profile wasnt strong enough..!!

Of course.
Call up. ask. they generally give you a vague answer like - ' the pool of applicants was competitive etc...'
keep asking leading questions. enquire about what the avg scores/ profiles of the acepted students looks like.

Ask them what would they want you to do to improve your chances next year.

I did this and got diff answers from all the programs. thats when i realised that I can't please everyone. I focused on a lot of work but directed my efforts at one school only.

All the best!

thanks a lot for the advice..!!

one last thing so according to you i should drop the idea of a msters from uk ?
c all i want as of now is a back up..since from 2012 rules r changing again...i dont want to waste another year of just sitting and waiting....isnt it good to get a degree instead.?

Hi everyone,

I m planning to apply for an MHA program in Canada. Could anyone please provide some info regarding MHA program in Dalhousie University? Is anyone here who has completed the program from Dalhousie?

What are the job prospects after completing an MHA from Dalhousie University?
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks & regards,
