ok, i'll give my opinion. I can see your situation as being an advantage. when asked "why dentistry?" you can state that you, from personal experience, understand the importance of a nice smile. You could explain that you can empathise with clients/patients on a personal level that need restoration work.

Most interviews want to create a relaxed atmosphere. Bringing up the fact that you have a messed up grill(again I am kidding) doesn't exactly break the ice for a conversation, now does it.. Now as long as you don't go into the interview lookin like you dressed yourself in the dark, you should be fine. Jr8047 brings up a great point, if they ask you about "why you want to go into dentistry" you have an honest and sincere answer. Thats important to interviewers your abilty to give an honest answer.

Good luck

I had classmates who have uglier faces than teeth with 3 degree mobility with buccal abscesses........and they still got into dental school. Stop worrying too much.

My teeth are NOT straight and they are not perfectly white (I had braces, but got a bad ortho who wanted me to wear a retainer for 2 YEARS until I got sick of it!) None of the interviews that I went on asked about it and I still managed to get into 5 out of the 6 schools I applied.

I don'think it's as big a deal as you think. Especially when your grades and who you are as a person are so much more important.

Good luck with interviews. :luck:

Trust me, roughly 1/2 of the dental school faculty that will interview you will have significant dental "imperfections" 😀

Ironically enough its often in the area of dentistry that their specialty is in 😱 😕
