Is there anyone currently enrolling in the MBS program?

Please answer my questions:

1) How is the area around the campus? (I plan to visit in few weeks)

2) Off-Campus housing cost?

3) How competative or difficult is the program?

4) How many people actually get into medical school during, or after finishing the program?

5) Do MBS students take the courses with DO students from the same DO faculties?

6) If you get into CCOM later, do you have to repeat the same courses you took during MBS program?

7) Do you get automatic interview from CCOM?

8) Pros and Cons?

=======================================================
I just received acceptance into the program, but the website doesn't give you much information about the program in depth.

I have very low undergrad GPA (Overall and Science), so I must improve my academic credentials as much as I can in 1~2 years to get into medical school.

Your answers are very appreciated!
Your answers can change my future!

Thanks in advance 🙂

i am a second yr currently and i will try to answer any questions i can here

Is there anyone currently enrolling in the MBS program?

Please answer my questions:

1) How is the area around the campus? (I plan to visit in few weeks)

campus is right next to a forest preserve so it is actually really nice. the area immediately around campus is residential, with a small corporate business park across the way. there is plenty of things nearby to do and see as well as places to eat

2) Off-Campus housing cost?

i would cal the campus housing office on this one i am not quite sure. i live farther and own so i am not sure about the cost immediately around campus

3) How competative or difficult is the program?

the program is not competetive among itself....the campus really does have a "family" feel to it. you will become very close with your classmates and they with you.
as far as difficult...they ease you into it. get a good study plan down frist quarter cause second quarter is much more intense and difficult. use every tool in your arsenal that you have used for your classes that require heavy memorization and do not let anyone else tell you that this way or that way works better....only you know what works for you 🙂

4) How many people actually get into medical school during, or after finishing the program?

my class has 6 people get in during the first yr of the program and i think 9 currently in from second yr plus i am on the alternate list so pretty darn good outcome.
in general i think everyone who applied got in where they wanted to go

5) Do MBS students take the courses with DO students from the same DO faculties?

yes we take biochem with the medical students as well as pharmacology. all facilities are shared among the various programs offered there...with the exception of anatomy lab and omm lab

6) If you get into CCOM later, do you have to repeat the same courses you took during MBS program?

you do not have to take core (every 1st yr student has to take it). you do have to retake biochem since you do not take med school exams for that course. currently, if you elect to take all 3 quarters of pharmacology and get a B+ or above in all 3 quarters you do not have to retake pharmacology your second yr.....this may or may not change though.

7) Do you get automatic interview from CCOM?

the answer to this is rather complicated, i will pm you about it

8) Pros and Cons?

i think toward the top there is a "rate your smp" thread....i posted a detailed review there. i stand by everything i said there

if you have any more questions please feel free to shoot me a pm 🙂
