Hi SDN,

I'm a Massachusetts resident. I really want to get in this cycle but I didn't do so hot on the QR section. I am normally good at math, but I focused studying more on the sciences and didn't get nearly enough sleep last night (1-2 hours).

Just took my DAT today. Here are my scores and GPA.

GPA Overall: 3.53
Science: 3.43
Non-science GPA: 3.7

Should I retake in November? My application was already submitted July 12, 13.
PAT 20
QR 15
READING 19
BIO 19
GEN-CHEM 20
OCHEM 21

TOTAL SCIENCE 20
AA 19

I have 112 hours shadowing, pending 40 hours at internship (dental clinical research/ periodontist)
Tons of leadership, SGA President, EC, volunteer, two years interning as dental research, published paper for a different research, participated in UMichigan Predental summer program.
First generation student, applied as disadvantaged student
Good LOR, although I didn't read them.

My application was sent to dental schools 7/12/13.

Should I retake the DATs? The only thing with that is my next eligibility is not until November 3 and I don't want to not have my application reviewed. Do I even have a chance this cycle?

These are the dental schools I applied to (Although I might add more schools since QR isn't so hot) What do you think?
Should I add more schools?
Tufts
BU
UMichigan
UMaryland
UPenn
NYC
New England Dental (ME)
Rutgers
UOklahoma
Columbia University

Any and all feedback is appreciated. I'm so angry at myself for not practicing/working out more QR problems. I ended up guessing at the end because I ran out of time.

Your app is really solid. Don't wear that 15 QR around your interviewers like a scarlet letter. One of them will probably say, "15 in QR, huh? I'm terrible at math too".

I will recommend you do some research on the cut off for QR which usually is about 17. Yes, it is the least important score but there is still a cut off for the section

^^^Bad move.

I recommend that OP immediately and thoroughly completes his/her AADSAS applications and stockpile up on the copious amounts of fun prior to starting ds next year. And I am willing to wager my evil-long-lost twin sibling for it.

nobody really cares about QR that much. Look up schools with no cutoff. Had an interview yesterday at UTHSC with my 16 QR and the dean told me that they don't really look at QR. "You won't ever need to do math as a dentist" are the exact words he told me.

Still 1 on 1 with D3/D4 and 1 on 1 with faculty?

Thanks for your feed back. I feel a lot better now. Still considering to retake...I really wanted to stay in Massachusetts. I think Tufts has a cut off of 17. 🙁 So close yet so far.

Is this for me? Sorry, I'm fairly new to SDN. Does OP mean Original Post? And my application was sent 3 batch to dental schools 7/12/13. They were just waiting for my DAT scores I think.

Thank you so much! This makes me feel so much better. I'll definitely do more research and send my applications to more dental schools then. Congrats on your interview by the way! 🙂

Thank you. So would you recommend retake? Add more schools?

Are you a Texas Resident?

not at all. let me clarify that the UTHSC I'm talking about here is Tennessee. Not Texas San Antonio. I'm an Arkansas resident

APPLY ASAP. You got a decent chance.

OP, hmmm... Original Post/Original Poster/Orange Peel.😕

If resources allow, then apply to wherever suits you. Finish the supplemental applications ASAP if you have not already.

I don't think the people at AADSAS will be sitting there counting pixels to verify your DAT scores.

Lol Orange Peel... Thanks! I'm going to keep studying and if I don't receive any interviews, I will try retake in November.

Hi! I think your stats are perfectly fine- the fact that you got your app in early is GREAT. If you're feeling antsy, perhaps apply to a few small private schools? And hey, I did a predental program at Umich too 🙂

Columbia was a waste of money. But, I think you have a shot at the rest.
