I am wait listed at a couple of places and would love to interview there, and I am sure there are many others in my situation. So those of you with 20 or more interviews that don't intend on going to all of them please cancel those that you don't want to attend as soon as you can.

thank for helping.

Thanks Joo I will cancel all my interviews effective immediately.

I don't think what he is asking is unreasonable whatsoever, Actually, it is probably the proper thing to do. I see u are a resident and it is "cool" to make fun of RJ on a message board but grow up. A year or 2 ago and I'm sure u were hoping to get an invite from a certain program u hadn't heard from yet. Hope u are enjoying trying to rip RJ's concern but I'd love to see u do it in person, man to man, u are def a typical Internet tough guy

Typical internet tough guy, actually in person I am very intimidating(im sure many can vouch for that). No short man syndrome here. Relax, I was just poking fun at what appeared to be a hearted attempt at someone to get more interviews. Joo I hope you get more interviews if I see you at my place I will definitely extend a hand. Lighten up guys

I don't think you can take it any other way than a joke, seeing as how the reply was from a resident. I chuckled.

It does beg the question, do programs "overbook" interview invitations based on previous year response rates or is it more rolling? For example, do they look at previous years, then go, OK, if we invite 200, 150 will come, and we can rank 100 of those? Or is it, invite 50, see who responds, invite 50 more, see who responds, invite 50 more, etc?

I'm sure you don't follow all the interview posts etc as a resident, but RJ has admitted to not being overwhelmed with invites, despite a high degree of interest and passion for the field.

To the point, like others have stated, even if you get an invite (hell, I received one in the mail (as in postal)! no email, no ERAS.....) don't just sit on it. Book the damn thing (which you can then cancel if necessary, but this late in the game, try thinking of others) OR get back to them in a reasonable amount of time so they can get invites out to others that are waiting for more.

this was just a friendly reminder. no need for arguements. I'd love to get a couple more interviews, so would a lot of people I bet. So if you're one of the many lucky applicants on here that got over 20 interivews and don't plan on attending them all, I ask that you cancel them in a timely manner so others less fortunate can have a chance to shine as well. I didn't ask for people to cancel the interivews which they were planning to attend, for that I would probably have to include a ca$h "reward". But it never hurts to ask, especially with the season of giving quickly approaching.

sorry, didnt know u were joking, i just know RJ gets ripped often on here. seeing as how u went through the process already, u know how stressful it is and the stress is prolly the reason for my post also. once again, good luck to all.

just a quick question for anyone who can help in here. i have gotten interview invites, but basically NO rejections. i know some programs flat out wont invite or reject u, but i applied to 52 programs, 10 invites, 1 rejection. does this mean im still in the heap for many programs and may still get invites or more than likely im not gonna be getting anymore? i know no one knows for sure, but maybe if u were in my position before u could shed some light. thanks

haha i am jealous. i am rolling in a tsunami of rejections post Nov 1. At first my ego went down but then i had to laugh at how fast they were rolling in. Do we really get more interviews post nov 1? or is that an urban legend designed to get my hopes up before dashing them on the ground, in which case it is working very effectively

I applied to maybe 60 programs and am still waiting to hear from about 20 of them.

I think if there are a couple programs that you haven't heard from but are really interested in, you should shoot them an email or give them a call and let them know of your continued interest. You could also ask them to keep you informed if they have any interview openings...

The only "official" rejection I've received was from a program, where, about 1 week earlier I sent them a message that I would not be able to attend any of their interview dates, but that "surely another qualified candidate would be able to...." Then they "reject" me a week later......

True story, but to the point, I really don't expect that many "rejections". I think it'll be you either get an invite or you don't. Either that, or I have a bunch of rejections in my near future....

I'm still waiting for the med school at the university where I was an undergrad to send me an AMCAS secondary. :xf:

I was quite offended by the snub at the time.

That's a b.tch.

I was all red a.ssed when I was waiting patiently from a program that I rotated through, as well as having received a great LOR from one of their attendings.

So, I send the coordinator gal a message (since others had yet to receive an invite also, but just wanted to gauge what was up). Low and behold, a week and 1/2 later, I get an email response from her that she was sorry I didn't receive the original invite (how that got messed up, I have no idea), but that I was in fact invited.......

Sometimes some crazy stuff happens during this process......

yeah i called about 40 programs last week and most people just don't like giving out rejections and just hold on to the applications the whole season. a few places even avoid saying the word "rejection". this one place I called and here's what happened...

RJ: Hi, I applied to your residency program and I am just calling to find out the status of my application?
RC: Well, we notified all the applicants that received an interview invitation from our program already.
RJ: So if I didn't get one, then I am rejected?
RC: Well no, not exactly. You just weren't invited to interview at this time.
RJ: Will you be offering more interview dates this season?
RC: I highly doubt it.
RJ: Thank you very much ma'am, have a great day.

People sure are nice in other parts of the country.. and if you're reading this Ma'am thank you for being so nice to me.

Did you happen to call Maimo, St. Vincent, or NUMC? Any word on whether their giving out interviews at all?

I too am waiting on word from those 3 hospitals. They would def help as I am from NY altho I did an away at NUMC and havent heard from them...not sure what is going on. Best of luck to you guys

ill be at numc next week for a rotation and go check with the anesthesia dept if no one has heard by then yet.

when is it too late to cancel? I presume the day before is too late, but how about 1 week? 1 month?

1 week is probably still good, the best is to do it as soon as you know you won't be going there. However, i bet if someone is with in driving range of the program 1 week notice or even a few days notice is fine.
