PLEASE don't pay attention to Lizzy M score

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I agree with everything that has been said, including banana bread. Also wanted to add -- OP might have been looking at the schools' LizzyM scores on the calculator site/applicant assistant or whatever it's called. Do not use the calculator to find your +/- 10% schools. It is off, ie: too low, by 2 points for most of the schools I looked at this morning, even when you keep the "-1" constant. To address the Harvard example someone brought up earlier, it is listed as 73 on the calculator site but should be 75.1. Shell out the $ for the MSAR and do the Lizzy calculations yourself.

TL;DR The concept is still a good one, but you have to use the right data.

GUYS OP IS RIGHT! LizzyM scores make NO sense. please allow me to demonstrate:

lets do some basic math to calculate my LizzyM:
so, if the equation is: LizzyM = (GPA x 10) + MCAT

and my GPA is a 1.0
and my MCAT is a 473

my LizzyM = (1.0 x 10) + 473 = 483

I have a LizzyM of 483 and have 0 II!! OP has a LizzyM of 72 and 10II. See? what is this sorcery!!! LizzyM scores are a hoax and I just DEBUNKED it!

from now on we use TucoR scores

TucoR = (goodness of fit of med school on a scale of -7 to 84) x (shared values with med school on a scale of 34 to 674.8) - (1/(LizzyM score)) x 100% = your chances of getting into a specific med school
Lollll basically the admissions process in a nutshell

On a real note though, all four of the schools that have offered me an interview so far were within 2 points of my LizzyM score. 2 of those were within 0.2 points. n=1 but it sure as hell has been working for me!

I'm going to to just say this: if you ignore the LizzyM score, don't ignore the advice that accompanies it. She's not really the "evil queen of numbers," but unless you're unusual, you're going to want to pay attention to those numbers. And you can't blame her for the reality that follows: your sub-par class rank and Step 1 in med school cannot be rescued by your incredibly unique life experience. I'm only weeks into M1 and I can tell you that we're ALL on a level playing field already, without the luxury of years of self-exploration to correct any defects. It's game time. You may as well start thinking that way when you apply to med school: it's not about you against everyone else; it's you becoming the best you can be, ASAP.

Not all have the money to ignore LizzyM scores. I ended up at a school that had a slightly higher score, but all my research and community service matched their mission perfectly. Overreaching was not a possibility for me because I had limited funds.
